 Hello All,

I began playing ME2 for the first time and when I was suddenly forced to go to the Horizon mission, it got me wondering about the future and worried that I might be pressed into completing things before I was ready to. I assumed the missions were similar to ME1 and could be undertaken at your leisure, with a bit of a glance I realized this game is different.

My concern is that I would be forced to complete the game or do something before being able to experience everything else in the game, so I am looking for advice on what order to do things in, and where the "no turning back" point" is, so I dont go there too soon.

I know now, that Horizon is forced once you complete certain recruitment requirements, and I am there now and here is what I have done. (I basically went cluster to cluster working my way towards the citadel until TIM told me I was going to Horizon).

-Completed the Intro/Freedom's Progress Mission
-Recruited Garrus, Zaeed, Mordin, Jack & Grunt (Omega Completed)
-Completed Overlord
-Completed the first mission of Firewalker
-Completed Zaeed's loyalty Mission
-Completed N7 Estevanico, Normandy Crash Site and a couple Cerberus Missions involving Eclipse.

I have yet to visit the Citadel or recruit Kasumi or any of the other characters I know can eventually be recruited. I dont want to miss anything, so I thought I'd ask for help. Had I known Horizon was coming, I would have held off until I had done every mission I could have before that, I dont want to be surprised again and be told it's time to go through the relay or something. :o

Hmm... how to tell you without spoiling...

Well once you are done with Horizon, the next obligatory mission triggers once you've gotten five missions complete screens.

I advice you to recruit the rest, and the do one or two missions, and then the next main mission will trigger. Once that is done you are free to do whatever you want, but do NOT and i repeat NOT, start the mission called reaper IFF before you are finished with most quests. My advise:

Once Horizon is done:

Recruit Kasumi and do her loyalty mission (1 mission complete screen)
Recruit the three next squadmembers (3 mission complete screens)
And then do whatever you feel like for the last mission required to trigger the next main mission.

Take it easy, you won't miss anything. The N7 missions and other stuff are available throughout the whole game. Once you are done with the second trigger;

Explore the galaxy at your leisure, complete squads personal missions and wrap most business up. However, here is some additional advice:

Wait with doing Talis personal mission till after the reaper IFF one. On the IFF you will aquire a new squadmate (I won't reveal any more) and you may want to bring him on Talis mission just for fun.

It is extremely important that when you are finished with Reaper IFF, talk to this last squadmate immediatly, and only one time. Once you have talked with him, complete Talis personal mission with him in squad, and when you are finished with that, talk to him again and do his personal mission. Do not do any more than these TWO missions though. After these two missions another event will trigger, and once that event is done you should do the suicide mission immediately.

This is just advice, not a requirement, for a more interesting playthrough. If you do not want to do what I said, when at least try it in another playtrhough.

Oh, and good luck with the suicide mission. I'm on my fourth or fifth playtrhough of ME2 right now, but I don't remember how to get everything right, and I refuse to use a guide. So i'm hoping both mine and yours go well.

Hope this helped.

Thanks, it certainly did help!

I wish the game gave some warning on these things though, It would be terrible to find them out the hard way.

Just one more quick question, I assume everyone's loyalty missions will be available by the end of the second main mission? I talked to everyone after any significant event prior to Horizon, but nothing really opened up at all in that time.

It sounds like after the third, you have a time crunch before you must complete the final mission.

Well, after horizon two loyalty missions should become available. In my walkthroughs this has always been Jacob and Mirandas. After that you receive a new journal entry after every mission completed, and after a while, all loyalty will be available.

If you count Freedoms progress (Lazarus project being mission 0: the intro) as the first main mission, and Horizon as the second, then yes, you have time to freely explore between the third main mission and the reaper IFF.

However, once you go start the Reaper IFF mission, you will not have much time anymore. Only two more missions can be completed after that if you wish to save absolutely everyone. Although you can do more missions between Reaper IFF and suicide, it will result in deaths of several people aboard the normandy (Not squadmates, but normandy personnel; Chakwas, Gabby etc.)

Once you have done those two last missions, land a random place, and the final event before suicide mission will trigger.

Also a final word of advice: When you get to ME3, there are two timed missions. Do them immedieately, otherwise it can have disasterous effects. The two missions are called Tuchanka bomb and Grissom Academy. Trust me when I say doing these two as soon as possible will be for your own best.

Anyways, I wish you luck in your playtrhough, and if you follow my advice regarding the Tali thing, I hope you found the unique dialogue and scenario entertaining.

Oh, sorry I misread your post. Yes you have bad time after the third trigger point (Reaper IFF). Thats why you should do the most things possible before Reaper IFF. You will only have two more missions if you want an optimal suicide mission.

Remember also that the game counts time by mission complete screens. Therefore it doesn't matter whether you land on hubs or not, as long as you do not complete any missions, if you should feel for buying something just before the suicide mission.

First off, I think you should play blind at least the first time. Second, unlike ME1, in ME2 the game does not "end." Even after you complete the Suicide Mission you are free to continue playing. One possibility, for instance, is to not do Zaeed's loyalty mission until after the Suicide Mission. This gives you the option of killing him at the end of his mission, an option you don't get if you do it before the SM.

What follows are my recommendations for what to do between Horizon and the next "forced" mission:

1) Recruit Thane
2) Recruit Samara
3) Do various different minor tasks on Illium and Omega (these do not count as missions)
assuming you have an import from ME1:
On Illium
a) Gianna Parsinni has a minor task for you
B) Conrad Verner will have a minor task for you (if you completed his quest in ME1)
c) Liara will have two minor tasks for you (do not do LotSB yet)
d) Feros colonist (Shiala if alive) will have a task for you
e) a slave trader will have a task for you
f) talk to Memories of Illium merchant
On Omega:
from main entrance, take a right towards the markets and meet Ish (Bring Jacob and Miranda)
4) Here I would recommend buying the Pylos Nebula map at Baria Frontiers on Illium and going to the Dirada System. Find the Geth outpost and complete that side mission. This will give you a damage protection bonus (3/5) and unlock Hard Shield (Sheppard's shields take 20% less damage).
5) By this point you will have loyalty requests from Miranda, Jacob, Jack, Mordin, and Grunt so:
6) Go to Tuchanka
a) do Ratch's task to get a discount at his store
7) Do Grunt's Loyalty mission, get discount at Fortak's store
VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT GO BACK TO THE NORMANDY! Go back to the shuttle, pick a new squad that includes Mordin
8) Do Mordin's Loyalty mission
9) finish shopping on Tuchanka (also deliver manifold, talk to Chief Scout again)
10) now return to Normandy.

By doing the two Tuchanka loyalty missions without returning to the Normandy you can actually do five missions between Horizon and the Collector ship giving you more level up's, more money, more discounts, more shopping opportunities.

@YouKnowMyName

Thanks for the tip about Legion and Tali's mission. I'll bet bringing Legion on board the Rayya causes quite a stir. I am going to have to try that.

If I were to experience the game through fresh eyes again I would certainly not be looking online to find the "optimal" playthrough. You are in no danger of missing content provided you do not activate certain "lock-in" plot points and if you've played a Bioware game before you'll be able to spot them a mile off.

Enjoy the game

This thread is becoming a bit too spoilerish. But I agree that it isn't neccessary to have an optimal experience the first playtrhough. It is the second or third one often aims for that.

However, all I wrote is just friendly advice. It wasn't meant as anything more.

cap and down, yes bring him aboard, it is going to be fun. Didn't try it before the second playthrough myself.

Well, I guess this thread is concluded then!
