Well, I'm not so sure that I entirely agree with you, ClonesLegacy. I know that when I was in high school I would be prone to do some irrational stuff because I was disappointed in myself, so I felt like other people were disappointed in me. Jaune seems like a character that is about personal growth. He doesn't want to draw strength from other people; he wants to draw strength from himself. What he doesn't realize is that learning to accept help (especially from a person like Pyrrha) is part of becoming a stronger and better person. He seemed to learn from his mistake by the end of the arc, and that is what gives me confidence that he will become competent sooner rather than later. That is, of course, assuming that the RWBY staff doesn't want to make him the comic relief character of the show.
Narrative wise, and character wise Jaune acts out of character. He has no real reason to be mad or disappointed. Either hold off on it. Or give Jaune a bigger boot for motivation. Here's how I would've done it.
It's a team sparring match, JNPR Vs. CRDL. Jaunes incompetence in tactics, teamwork, and combat gets the rowdy CRDL boys to got a bit over the edge and they hurt either Nora or Ren (Not seriously, but enough)
That way we have some stakes, and makes Jaune realize he can't coast by in Beacon because there are others that rely on him now, and it involves all of Jaunes Team in the events than just Pyrrha.
There done. That took half a minute to come up with with my one brain.
RWBY had 3!
