I prefer the original opening song. It was more fast paced. This was a build-up episode, and it went by very fast. Next week should be interesting.

It was an ok episode although it did have some shortcomings for me personally. I do feel the show could play to its own strengths a little better. I would prefer if they used the comedy and random schooling nonsense as more of flavoring rather then direct focuses of the episodes, in particular with the shorter episode lengths relative to a regular TV show. I do find the humor decent with plenty of grinning going on and the odd moment where I even manage to burst out laughing (Nora's "women" *shrugs* moment for example ) but I feel it could do more if it focused more on the fights (which tbh so far has been the best thing in the entire show) and story development. I'm not sure if this comes down to them wanting it to have a more lighthearted tone or if the pacing is just a bit off for me but I do feel there could be more meaningful development going on.

 

I did like Rubys final scene with Cinder and the gang, mainly because of how oblivious Ruby seemed compared to how tense the scenes tone was in the show.

 

In short: Overall I'm enjoying the season, but I hope as the season goes on there is a bit less of a focus on the goofiness (just a bit!) For me this is a show that has a whole lot of potential but still has yet to hit it's stride so we'll see where season 2 takes it.

 

So far Blake is still my favorite, with Nora running 2nd for the lolz.

This is supposed to happen, they'll grow up with time. Still, its Roosterteeth;the humor as it is will ALWAYS be there.

I think the humor is pretty good and works in the shows favor when it's not the main focus of the episodes, but I'm willing to admit this is just my personal preference. I can appreciate that the story is about throwing children into a serious situation so yes, it makes sense that they will act a bit goofy and largely not appreciate the weight of the situation quite yet, but I do find the execution with the way it shifts back and forth in tone to be just a bit jarring. I mean in the first episode we have a shop keeper get murdered because of his connection to this terrorist group and a couple minutes later we get an over the top food fight. Again, this is just personal preference and don't take these comments too negatively against the show since overall I did enjoy it! It just feels like a show that hasn't fully hit it's stride quite yet.

What's truly entertaining is how that food fight actually felt like a real fight. Even when the show is being over the top silly it still does incredibly well put together fights that manage to beat the snot out of other show's that have a main focus on fighting.

 

It's like the people making the fights watched a whole ton of FF7:AC or something
