The second episode was impressive.

They've honed both the comedic side and dramatic sides in terms of dialogue. You can tell that they're building up for quite a few story arcs to play out. Belladonna is going to be getting a hell of a bigger role this season, I really loved that scene between her and Ozpin. Secrets can't stay hidden forever.

...but I do find the execution with the way it shifts back and forth in tone to be just a bit jarring.

It comes with the series as a whole, and I'd expect an awful lot of the animated shows that influenced it would have a similar flip-flopping between ludicrous slapstick and storylining stuff. It's not my preference either, but I'd say they're handling it with better execution than Season 1.

I understand trying to mix humor and seriousness and so far it's worked at keeping a mostly consistent tone. I mainly worry for when they get into the darker issues aka Ruby's mother and how they are going to manage that.

Really. I think Volume 2 will be where everything changes. Just compare This Will be the day to Time to say Goodbye. The first is a far more optimistic song.

Also I hope this show doesn't go the cliche route and involve a prophecy.

Well volume 2 has felt a bit darker so far. What with the focus on the antagonists and nation politics in the first two episodes. More like what I expected it to be when I first started watching it.

Because initially they were referred to as the B Team(JNPR), but then a little later were referred to as the second A Team.

 

Glad they're back to being recognized as the B Team.
