About the bladed weapons thing:

 

We've already seen how guns aren't great against Grimm. In the episode Prince posted, it took 3 mecha-soldiers to take down one Ursa. It actually makes sense to have melee weapons that won't run out of ammo when you are fighting hordes of creatures that want you in tiny pieces. The comparison to going on a safari and killing water buffalo is incorrect, as a water buffalo is going to run away.

Based on the dust WoR the same thing as all the other ways of absorbing dust.

You don't want a water buffalo to run away after you angered it. Because it's going to come back with friends. Those animals are one of the few that exhibit revenge behaviour. But that's beside the point, if bullet's aren't enough, you make bigger bullets, or fire more of them. The RWBYverse has giant airships, no one can tell me not a single person took a look at one of those things and thought "let's put a huge ass gun on that". I mean, Coco Adal's gatling handbag mowed down quite the number of Grimm, including a Deathstalker which from the looks of it is the toughest nut to crack due to its carapace. And that gun pretty much looks the equivalent of a 7.62x51mm round (think M134 minigun). If that can kill Deathstalkers, think of what a 25mm Vulcan cannon can do. Or a high caliber howitzer. I'd imagine flying the equivalent of an AC130 gunship over a Grimm infested area would very quickly disinfest it. Giant elephant Grimm? Bring the artillery!

 

 

But we digress.

 

 

Huge ass guns. We already know you can fit a minigun into a mecha-shifting handbag. Do you guys suppose I could fit a tank in a large backpack? Cuz I'd totally go with a tank if at all possible. A dust powered tank with jetpacks for limited flight. That can shoot 120mm caliber dust shells, has a 14mm coaxial machine gun and another 14mm machinegun on a remote-controlled turret on top of the gun turret. Maybe interchangeable with other weapon mounts, like say a flame- no: ICE thrower. Oh, and it's treads can shift into legs, making it a spider tank that can walk over different terrain without requiring the jetpacks (jetpacks are reserved for driving over Nevermores ... IN FLIGHT!).

 

It could fit the entire four man team (provided their weapons aren't too cumbersome), could function as armored refuge during rests (it's a damn tank!) and comes with a tea brewer (important!!!).
