It's how I got into Mass Effect. Was bored, wanted new game, went into shop, saw Mass Effect EA classics for ten bucks, rougly remembered the name being involved with a couple discussions on the web, turned case, read description, thought sounds fine enough, checked system requirements, okay can run it. Pondered for about one minute, take it or leave it? Then decided, bah, only ten bucks, if I don't like it not much of a loss.
Got back, turned on laptop, put disc in, got greeted by the Mass Effect theme and immediately though: yup, can't be bad if the music is already that good. Clicked on install, then read the manual whilst the game installed, was intrigued by some of the gameplay mechanics, then played the game and immediately liked it. First time seeing the Citadel and exploring the Presidium and Wards was priceless. I swear I had a twinkle in my eyes the entire time. Fistpump of accomplishment when inducted to the Spectres.
Thought game was well worth the ten bucks. One of those unexpected lucky grabs.
Progressed through the game, story was getting more and more intriguing, characters more and more interesting, then Virmire -> *BAMM*!!! That was the moment I sold my soul. Played the game through at that point, I just couldn't stop after Virmire. After some of the best four hours of personal gaming experience after that little marathon the game ended and I was still WOW'ed, then Faunts M4 Part 2 as credits track. Just OMG!
Went to the internet, checked Mass Effect out, found the BioWare website (still the old one!), registered, found out ME2 was coming in just two months, went to Gamestop the next day and preordered.
Also bought Dragon Age Origins that day and surely enough, fell for it too.
That's how I got into BioWare. Best ten bucks decision I've ever made.
RWBY is another one of those random find, immediate love things.

You go along, just buy/watch/read stuff because you are soo bored you just don't care and then it turns out you love it, even though you realistically expected to just waste your time (and money).
Only happened to me a couple times though. Would love to have it happen some more.
