Am I the only one who gets less impressed by this show's overall direction this season the more I think about it? It wouldn't be so bad if the show focused primarily on character development or action, but the show seems to be focused on the school life of the kids. It's really different from the trailers. Plus, for every character that gets developed, four more pop up. The worst part is that it seems like some characters are being introduced for the sake of other character's development. What role does Monkey Man play other than to advance Blake's plot? What role does Cardin play other than to advance Jaune's plot? There are so many random plot elements that seem like they have no chance of being resolved in a non-rushed way. The mafia invasion. The White Fang. The team bonding. Jaune's fake admittance into the school. Where are Penny and Monkey Man from? Is the tournament for Beacon students or students from other places? Does one even need to be a student to participate in the tournament? How did Ruby end up getting adopted? What is Scarlet's background?

There is no way that they will be able to even address half of these introduced elements in the upcoming season. 16 episodes averaging 6 minutes? There is no way that they can reasonably expect to cover everything that they are introducing. This show is facing the danger of collapsing under it's own weight, in my eyes.

Of course, this is just me critquing the show as an actual show instead of a lil' web series. They have done good work, but they are starting to make this show bigger than I believe they can handle it, given it's current format.

You're not alone. I've said it before, this series is introducing way more characters than it ought to given that most episodes are five-minutes-long. There simply isn't enough time to develop them properly, not to mention they're using up screen time that could be better spent developing the characters you've already got. Is Cardin more than a one-dimensional villain that inadvertedly helps Jaune find his courage? Is Monkey Man more than an excuse to explore Blake's past? Could we not have achieved the same result without introducing a new character? Why not make use of Velvet and have the two of them bond over being Faunus students at Beacon? Then there are the unresolved threads, like that bit about Jaune having forged his way into Beacon. Surely they're going to address that at some point? Or have about those guys who stole dust in the premiere, nobody's curious about them?

I really don't want to repeat the obvious but for a series called RWBY, members R, W, B and Y, have had little character development. Indeed, Jaune has pretty much eclipsed them all, and we still have Nora, Pyrrha, and Ren too, not to mention Goodwitch and Ozpin himself. And Cardin, and Velvet, etc., etc., etc.

All the same opinions I have. If I had to make suggestions on how to improve RWBY for Volume Two, assuming the episodes are the same length and there's the same amount of them-

*Break episodes into A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones character-breaks
*Team RWBY requires priority focus
*RWB have had more focus than Yang, so Yang needs some extra time for character development while leaving a little around for the other three to keep it even
*JNPR is the B team, they must remain as such so no JNPR character should have more time than a member of team RWBY
*Pair JNPR with CRDL more often in the JNPR time slot so the two teams are equal
*Redesign CRDL to make their appearances more distinct as they appear too much like throwaways
*Give ample time to the Torchwick/Crimson enemy plot, as they're very shallow right now
*Characters like Velvet, Sun Wukong, and Penny must be sprinkled in and not given too much focus, but must come back repetitively so as to not waste them

etc etc etc

I'd actually like to discuss it with Mr. Oum, Mr. Luna, and Mr. Shawcross if I ever was given the opportunity. I'd only make suggestions, but I think they might help.

Right now it seems RWBY's time/resource management is all assassins. It needs a little templar thrown in.

I think JNPR was supposed to be a B team initially but then became a sort of second A team.

I was actually worried about this. The moment a cast member checks out the thread, suddenly its assumed they're here all the time or whenever a convenient coincidence comes up.
