Quite certainly.

We are all mad here.

Well, mostly Hanar, but we're all crazy.

Ironicly Hanar is one of the more sane ones.

Any type of believability and realism in the story is nonexistant.

I don't really know what you mean by this one, can you explain?

The abridged answer is the characters combined in this world don't come off as a believable setting. Too many outlandish elements, 4th wall breaking, etc.

It's been a while since I'd seen the older episodes so give me a bit of time to skim it, I'll build a more comprehensive answer to that.

I think there is Me, Clones, Grav and Prince. I don't remember the other one. I think it had you and Hanar in it

Two slots then I guess, maybe, I dunno, I'm sorry toanyone else who's in it.

I have bad memory.

But that's the appeal of the show for me personally; the parodical element of it all. It's a western take on anime. Did you expect a hard-boiled noir crime drama, or something?

Do you mean the different character styles being so diverse throughout?

Yeah, I had that problem, until I just figured that those styles had been passed down families. I don't know.

The show mixes anime elements/clichés, such as th outlandish over-the-top emotional reactions and the usual archetypes, like the clumsy character (usually the protagonist), who's a bit too eager to please everyone in a way that makes her seem silly, the snobby/serious character whose prowess in worldly, knowledgable affairs, does not make up for her social skills and ability to form relationships, the book worm and cooky character with a heart of gold and plenty of attitude  -- This is mixed up with references to western culture and humor akin to that of the earlier Red vs Blue seasons. It's rather refreshing. The final episode was quite good.

Episode 1: Ruby is listening to the theme song for the show she's in for the first scene. The robber seems to go in full derp mode just for the sake of entertainment value. The man recruiting a Scythe/Gun Wielding Badass provides large complimentary cookies while ruby pretends to do kung fu.

This would be fine if the show were built in a less Story-Centric, but it's presented as if this is a legitimate world. I don't see RoosterTeeth's design philosophy changing anytime soon.

I wasn't necessarily meaning to drag down the show from that bullet point, it just comes off as one of the major flaws to the show from my perspective.

Did you expect a hard-boiled noir crime drama, or something?

Based on the original trailers that LP posted? Something much more serious.

The final episode was quite good.

I can agree to that.

Do you mean the different character styles being so diverse throughout?

Nah, I've seen crazier party groups in fiction. /inb4planescape

I guess it just boils down to difference in tastes. ¯\\(°_o)/¯

The art style/dialogue remind me quite a bit of the Tales of Vesperia reboot a few years back.

Reminds me most of Ar tonelico.(before it jumped on the crazy boat in the third game) RWBY even has some of the story told through songs like it did.

Er, scratch the reboot part - mispoke. Yeah, it's 360 only. Anyhow, the combination of anime and cel shading art style definitely came to mind when I saw RWBY. At least on that side of the spectrum, I haven't been dissapointed(particularly with episode 1, 8 and 16).

Hmm. The DVD on Amazon finally has it's first valid one-star review. I agree with a lot that was said, though I don't think the voice acting is *that* bad. It fits well with the characters. Though, like the guy (and Dom and multiple others) said, the plot writing and the character development is really weak. Though based on my feelings, I would give volume 1 a 3.5/5. It wouldn't be an instant buy for me unless I was concerned about the show not being renewed. Right now it has a lot of potential, and it actually makes good use of the cliches that it's criticized for having, but it still has a lot of room to grow, and I think the second volume is the proper time to really lay into the show if it doesn't improve.

Anyway, more appropriate topic, I dislike when fan artists draw characters with drastically different skin tones than they are presented in the show.

Blake being black or Yang being hispanic, what?

Well, I didn't take what you said that way, but yeah, I could see how someone could twist it that way.

I have learned to protect myself from things like that since Clones started shipping me with Velvet and Ruby.
