Oh! maybe Summer and Cinder were BFFs at Beacon and Ozpin (accedently) did something that corrupted Cinder into what she is now, and Summer went to stop her, abandoning Ruby (who followed anyway, which Yang in turn followed too) in the ensuing fight Summer is killed by Cinder and Ruby sees it in all it's gory details.
Now Summers best friend Ozpin and Brother Qrow are training Ruby to become strong enough to kill Cinder.

The lyrics of Red Like Roses Pt. doesn't actually support that she was there for Summer's death actually, specifically this verse

I wasn't dreaming when they told me you were gone.

Well Clone about a corrupted Cinder, maybe not exactly corrupted physically as much as mentally, for her to reach for whatever end game she has planned, which is the only thing that has caused a bald spot on my face from scratching at my beard so much.

And I just realized 2 RWBY projects I'm doing actually both have Eldritch Abominations as the Ultimate Enemy (Stokar the Unbirthed for VLAD. And Melkith The Evermore for the Games true final Boss)...I think I have a problem...I should put away the Lovecraft for a while.

So this led to a rather big realization, if it’s Ruby’s mother (or whatever) who’s blood is red like roses than the line “Red like roses fill my dreams and bring me to the place you rest” (in red like roses) than that line can be changed to “Your blood fills my dreams and bring me to the place you rest”.



So the line is telling us that she dreams of her loved ones death (I believe mother) and that’s what brought her to the grave.
