I have one angle done. I still am going to go in and put a lot more details in, especially on the footwear, but this is the basic idea.

And this is her emblem. Bonus cookies for those that figure out what it is.

Actually is a omage to my grandmother who flew in the Vietnam Conflict, she wore something similar.

Anyway my only advice is that doesn't involve modifying the coat length...
Add a Belt with pouches.
She's a mage. Mages carry stuff

Was thinking of lengthening the coat as well, good to get someone else saying it so it gets easier not to doubt it.

And Pouches are part of the detail, and she already has a belt holding up that sash.
Also thinking of removing the foot coverings, and just making greaves, might seem fitting if they are making her special thing with being a mage that I think they are doing.

Yeah but this is me and my love of Long coats.
Maybe two belts. one for sash one for pouches, just give it a try is all I'm saying
