I would hardly call the endings "grimdark"

I never got the whole 'Citadel DLC as the true ending' thing. There's too much stuff in it that contradicts that idea. For a start, you can't finish Mass Effect 3 without Anderson and at least EDI or Shepard being dead and they're all alive and doing things in Citadel. There's denial and then there's just wilful ignorance.

From a lot of the posts I've seen on this thread, I feel like people are taking it way too seriously. Seriously guys, it's a silly sci-fi game that ended with some silly sci-fi nonsense, not the goddamned Red Wedding!

At least the Red Wedding served a greater narrative purpose beyond "grimdark art". :P

Even if it was pretty grimdark itself..... :crying:

But I can definitely see how people could use the Citadel as the "true" ending. Because its plot is so absurdly disconnected from everything else in the narrative, one can easily play it as an "epilogue" DLC, especially after choosing the Destroy ending (or Refuse, if you want to headcanon an offscreen victory).
As for why EDI shows up, one can always headcanon that the Catalyst was lying to you. And in regards to Anderson, well Shep's already potentially hallucinating about a dead Thane and dreaming obsessively about some 10 year old boy he never knew, so Anderson's just a figment of your imagination.... or maybe you open up an Anderson VI he left in his will that tells you about the apartments. ;)

Mind you, I'm just speculating as to how people can see Citadel as the true ending, considering I don't even have any of the DLC.

Fair enough. I've seen plenty of people make excuses along those lines, and EDI and Anderson being alive are the most blatant contradictions, but by no means the only ones. My question is why someone would bother pretending the Citadel DLC is set after the ending when that is clearly not the case; where's the fun in having to stick your fingers in your ears everytime someone mentions the war? It's like the Fawlty Towers of game endings.

An Anderson VI would be kind of creepy. Thanks for leaving me this interactive message thing. Couldn't you just leave a note like a normal person?

I haven't touched the game since putting it down in disgust for the very first time. Ending was bad!

Well, I guess one can always pretend that even after the Reapers were killed, there was still a war being waged against their remaining indoctrinated forces (like the remnants of Cerberus or the Batarian Hegemony). :D

I'm currently going through yet another playthrough (my first on PC, numerous on xbox) and i'm loving it even more with each playthrough.

Once i've done this playthrough though, i'm hitting mutliplayer like a boss.

I play ME3 for MP.

ME 1 and 2 are a ton of fun! I play them on a regular basis, looking for new charcter linesl, and just enjoying the ME galaxy.

ME1 had some amazing backgrounds, night skies, the Citadel.

ME2 had some kick butt gameplay and way more fun character interactions.

ME3 is an example - a warning of what happens when people with no vision are promoted to leadership positions.

I just replayed the Citadel DLC a few times with different characters, (luckily had a save file for all of them right before Kronos station). That was the last time I replayed the series, I honestly tired one more go just for the sake of seeing if my perspective changed but the motivation just wasn't there.

I haven't started a new import game of ME3 since just after the EC came out, I went back to playing games like Half-Life 2, Dragon Age:Origins, No One Lives Forever and SM's Pirates.

Oh, I expect many of the people who were upset with the ending would have gotten over it much sooner had they not kept coming back to the BSN, where they were exposed both to people who validated and inflamed their outrage and people who regularly denied the outrage was in any way justified as the game was perfectly fine.

Doesn't really explain why they still haven't gotten over it.

There's nothing stopping them from moving on.

Hmm.....or maybe they just came here to complain.

At this point I've imported all the Shepards that I want to import. (I kind of botched my initial ME2 playthrough in some ways, so I'm unlikely ever to go back to that character.) But I still plan on doing some further trilogy runs. I finished one a couple months ago and will probably start one at the end of this month. It's also possible that I'll replay my first couple of runs through ME3 since I didn't have any DLC except Javik when I first imported those characters.

Shepard: "Right - who's this, then? ... ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL!"

: One of the Reapers starts crying :

Harbinger: "How ever did they win?"

Currently, MEs aren't my highest priority, but I might come back later and do a rerun with my default Shepard from game 1 to game 3. Obviously, I might make the same choices again.

Game is fantastic. Same as DRAGON AGE 2 whereas while it is worse than DAO is way more replayble than DAO.

I do. In fact most times I'd rather play 3 than 1. I still love 1, it just gets a little tedious.

I still play the entire trilogy, though I admitally only play ME 1 just to have the imports ready for the sequels. It is the only series of it's kind on the market right now and I love the story, setting, characters, and gameplay.

ME1 was the most old school, with the planet exploring and the million weapons and items you got to sift through.  ME2 had the best missions and wealth of character stories and interactions, improved the combat mechanics, but dumbed down the weapons and upgrades and character class builds too much.  ME3 had the best combat, ramped up the character build and upgrade choices again, but had to cut down on the number and depth of character interactions to fit everything in to end the story.

I went back to a saved game in ME2 and played it through to fix a few "mistakes" I made the last time.  I imported the character from that one to ME3 but haven't played it yet past the opening part.  But I will soon.

Overall number, maybe, but the squad members in ME3 each get more interactions than individual characters did in ME2.
