My favorite part of this thread are the people saying they played the game multiple times even after the ending ruined it
I don't know what's hard to believe about that. ME3 is one of those games I was glued to my screen with the majority of the way, full of ups and downs (emotionally), and then only in the last 5 minutes getting this deflating, demoralizing, pointless feeling where all I could say was "Huh?" But I'm not going to hate on all the good stuff I saw just for that.
The levels, stories, and characters are the product of many people, so I can seperate it. Whoever did the ending though (Walters, I guess) is alone responsible. Some people think he intended to drag the whole franchise down, and sometimes I do.. but if I have any small say about it, I won't let it happen. The best I can do is just set it off to the side.
Heres how the story is told around net:
One of the devs posted on Penny Arcade forum and said that Casey Hudson and Mac Walters didnt go for peer review, they basically shut themselves in an office and came up with the ending there, then told others to do it, go hell or highwater. He later denied this and the post was deleted, but I think it was done more to protect him and the firm.
I think the ending and its refusal to change can be attributed mostly to the ego of these two men, thats how many view it at least. I wasnt there so cant say for sure, but wouldnt be surprised if this was the ultimate reason.
Yeah, I've heard about that. It sounds extremely selfish. Sometimes vision and selfishness are great too, don't get me wrong. Just depends on the project. But I think Mass Effect is one of those things that are bigger than any one or two people. That attitude works early on in a series, but not now. At this point, they're irresponsible, if it's true.
