Jack died tragically saving Miranda who had bubble duty in one of my first games, Miranda who told her she shouldn't have been born and she really doesn't like, but saved her anyway. This actually brought tears to my eyes and was the first time I decided there was more to her than just punk. I think thats also when I started using her for the bubble more often.

I don't think she's completely useless, she does have certain advantages.
Her Pull has a faster cool down than the other squad members, but I do find her necessary for missions where there are a lot of husks (Horizon, Reaper IFF, Minos Wasteland). If you're playing on Veteran difficulty or below, then her shockwave instantly kills husks. Levels above Veteran all the husks have armor, but she's still decent to bring along if you, or the other team mate have good armor stripping abilities. Area Reave then shockwave works pretty well.
