I originally purchased DAO back in the day when it first came out.  I recently wanted to play it again, but I didn't have the disks so I purchased the ultimate edition on steam.  I have my old saves and I can copy them into the character folder and try to load it but it says it has problems because I have items on that character from completing Dragon Age Journeys. It also isn't updating my profile with the stuff I completed on those characters.  Is there a way to get the achievements from those saves to update on my new install?

You can use Origin now to play Dragon Age, if you go to redeem code and type in your cd key on the back of the manual (if you still have it) you can download it free on Origin. Using this, you can try to move your save games to the Cloud and see if it will load it correctly that way. Also, I think achievements are linked to your profile, so as long as you sign in with the account they are linked to they should automatically fill in, they did for me.

Why not use the Force Load option?

I've removed items I didn't like from the game and got the 'error' message about how it couldn't load. Just picked Force Load and it worked without issue.

First, be sure to register the new version with this profile. Second, you'll need to manually install the DLC (Go to "your registered game content" in the my games section of your profile, download, then install with the daupdater).

I was able to load up an old non-Steam save into the Steam Ultimate Edition version. That particular character didn't have any DLC items, but I've also been able to use my collector's edition, pre-order, and journeys bonuses in new games started through the Ultimate edition.
