This is a question aimed at the bsn/me3 veterans. I see plenty of N7/] 3000+ players in various pugs. What brought you to that level? What were your reasons for promoting?
I am just shy of 14,000 myself. I set a personal goal of reaching 20,000 early on.
Who still promotes and why?

Something I will never properly understand...
N7 270, and it's not 120 only because of those operations.

I enjoy promoting and rebuilding characters from the ground up. The N7 objective (I think that's the promoting one?) is a factor as well of course.

Originally, becuase I hated getting wasted Character Cards.
Once I got over that, I promoted to finish N7 Mastery.
Once I finished N7 Mastery, I promoted one more time because I had to fix about 3 different classes' builds.
Im now at 3990, where I assume I will permanently stay, barring a glorious return of challenges, or some other unforseen event.

Sometimes I won't to re-spec an entire class. It's far easier to promote and work back up than use a re-spec card for each individual character.

I promoted a lot and I stopped when I first finished my N7 mastery when it came out.
The main reason for me to promote was to make use of the CC's back in the day that you would get in your packs anyway. Also, it was kind of a contest between me and my friends to see who could level up the fastest and so on.
*Sigh* Those were the days, 300 N7 rank a day was no problem.
I stopped promoting when I was busy finishing the character-waves for the first time and after that, I just kept my classes at 20.
I promoted one last time when the last DLC came out because of character cards.

I stopped promoting at N7 420 because, you know, blaze it. Then I started up again to get the N7 Banner. Stopped again after 60 promotions were obtained.

I never really understood the appeal of promoting. My N7 was at 270 (promoted 5 times for weekend operations) for a long time until the challenge system was introduced, then I snapped and ground out the promotion challenge so I'm now at N7 2070.
I definitely won't be promoting again, hopefully Bioware will create a more interesting progression mechanic for ME: Next.

It's my OCD... I hate to see all those experience points go to waste!!!

I love promoting. I'm going to hit 10 000 N7 this weekend. I just feel like I'm wasting points when I play with a lvl 20 (ocd much?) Also, I enjoy rebuilding characters without having to respec. It's pretty quick to get a character to 20 playing gold and plat.

Let's just say I'd still be at 120 if not for one of those weekend ops. Can't knock people who enjoy doing it, but I personally see no reason to do it.

Over 42000 I just can't stop, I know not why.

I once cared about my N7 rating. Not anymore.

I used to promote until last September, maybe? After that, I finished N7 mastery, now I'm at 4920. I'd really like an even number (like 6000) next to my name, but there is no way in hell that I'll promote my characters again.

I used to switch builds far more often than 3 respec cards allows, it helped keep things fresh in the breaks between releases of DLC characters.

yep. had promised myself to stop at 4200. an inexplicable madness moved me to start again. after reaching 4500, i'll never do it again.

Keeps the game fresh for me...really takes nothing to promote. I went up over 3000N7 levels in a matter of weeks just from playing/promoting/buying packs/playing more

BTW, I love the title. It's totally not dirty, but it totally sounds dirty - like a euphamism or somethin'.

I don't even remember the last time I played as a level 20 character. Level 19 is my new 20 lol

I first promoted because of SP, then to get the N7 banner and because I was over 7 (I like 7) promotions on all classes, i decided to promote all to 16 promotions, and now I'm N7 3000. I wanted to get N7 7770 first, but then I noticed, that I can't get that N7, if I want all classes promoted the same times.

I'm N7 3000 and here is how it happened...
A long time ago before one of the many changes to character cards, the rare ones would still drop if a character was maxed. So at some point I figured if I was going to get so many rare character cards, I might as well promote to at least get a higher Spec Ops team for SP.
Then they changed it so they wouldn't drop when maxed and I stopped promoting. They also changed the requirements of war assets in SP that made having any extra meaningless.
But then the challenge system showed up and had Promotion Grinding Mastery, and I decided to get it in order to complete all the challenges. After it was done I had N7 of 2960 or something and decided I should promote to make it an even 3000.

I wasn't aware I need a particular reason.
Is there any specific reason someone should not promote?

I thought "Flogging" painted a funnier mental image than "Beating".
