Are they bad as in NWN1? I have just started to play bard character, and I am having a good time. But I just began. Which prestige class should I get? Because I plan to. I have planned to take Eldrick Knight. Is that smart?

Sorry for mistakes, I am foreigner.

Bards are good, but they were good in NWN1 too. A bit of multiclassing is fine, but bards are best if kept relatively pure. Eldritch knight isn't good for bards because you lose songs and inspirations for little benefit.

For reference, this is a good example of a pure bard: http://nwn2db.com/build/?124983

When "Bard" shows up as a topic, it always stirs many fond memories.  I'd been into computer games for several years (I'll have to guess it's been since 1978, regularly, although occasionally, a few years before that). Then, when Bard's Tale showed up, and I think it was on Commodore's C64 first, if not right away after Apple ][ , and for all I know, was part of my reason for adding a C64 here, about that time.

But once it was on the X86 PCs as well, I was hooked.  And it was very hard to stay alive in that game, but it also was not off-putting to have to learn over the dead bodies of so many player characters.  If anyone else in the game playing world was hacking the player files at the time, I didn't find any c/o the local BBS' that had gaming forums, and I was reluctant to spend long distance fees on the company's BBS system.  I remember the name Brian Fargo . .

I've just craned my neck looking at the many game boxes on the topmost of my shelves, almost ceiling level (like I said, been gaming fir decades), and I don's see any of the three, BT-I, II, or III.  So I'm not sure whose game it was.  I once tinkered with a Sorceror's character files and the game acted very annoyed at me for whatever I did.  The avatar turned into some sort of buzzard or other carrion bird, and the character wasn't usable.

Another character would attack all his team mates, unless very specifically told to "defend" only.

Sorry for the digression, everyone!  (Was Fargo with Interplay back then, and was that the developing house?)

I've played through the OC as a bard / barbarian / red dragon disciple, and took eldritch knight in MotB. I took a few levels of bard mostly to qualify for RRD to boost by barbarian ability scores for combat. I had a lot of fun with my 'bardbarian' character.

I wouldn't exactly call it a bard build though. The only reason I didn't take sorceror instead of bard (which would also have qualified for RDD) was because a bard can cast spells in medium armour without spell failure with the 'battle caster' feat.

Bard bad? U mad?

There are like 5 main directions for bard development:

1. Melee Charisma based. Would benefit greatly from Turn Undead, Divine Shield and (Epic) Divine Might!, so a Blackguard, Cleric or even Paladin, if you can do the alignment switch, would compliment him nicely.
2. Melee Strenght based. Usually takes some Fighter and/or Red Dragon Disciple levels... Barbarian works too.
3. Melee Dexterity based. Will probably want to take some rogue/assasin levels for sneak attack goodness... is really good at feinting too... so Shadow Thief can come in handy as well.... Shadow Dancer is often a worthy addition to such builds as well.
4. Caster/song focus. Actually quite viable, gets access to some pretty powerfull epic songs, mostly left pure.
5. Archer Dexterity based. An Arcane Archer would be a natural fit, could also take some ranger level for some usefull feats. Oh and let's not ignore rogues, their sneak attacks can make the bow much more potent,if you catch the enemy flat-footed at close range.

If you get Kaedrin's pack then there's all sorts of ways you can go. Bard26/F4 makes a wicked Crossbow Sniper. Go to NWN2DB and do a search; you'll be surprised what you can do with a Bard.
