alright I noticed in DA2 he was the only companion you couldn't romance and that didn't romance anyone else (like aveline and donnic) and varric needs loving and was a fan favorite so he will likely be an LI if he is a companion. this isn't guaranteed obviously but it is my theory what do you think.

uh where do you get that from varric is universally loved. also men can play as a character that romance men. I played as a shepard that romanced garrus multiple times

Varric is a badass who has game. No further evidence needed. His caring for his crossbow has more substance than most romances in video games. The world is burning and he has a job to do.

I think the female fan response to Varric probably surprised the developers, in much the same way that Garrus did. I would not be surprised at all if Varric turns out to be a love interest.

I personally don't think this will happen, because:

A. David Gaider is weird about dwarf romances, and
B. Varric was done to death in DAII. Not only was he a companion, but he narrated most of the story. I'll be really surprised if he's a companion in DA:I, though I wouldn't complain.

That said, he does seem to have moved on from Bianca, so there may be new love in his future. :)

He wasn't, but he did seem to think some of the dwarves in The Hobbit were pretty hot, so he may have changed his mind on that.

Not interested for a Li. Ok if he's a party member.

Not likely to happen.

Didn't Gaider state that he has no interest in making a human/dwarven romance? I'll try and see if I can dig up the direct quote, but that's what's been said on many sites by quite a few people. How I heard it tell is, apparently he wanted to avoid a human/dwarf romance so he made Varric fall in love with his crossbow.

:?

I liked Varric the most because he wasn't a wangsting little diva who was actually fun to talk to and keep around. He was the only sane one of the bunch, erotic stories and all.

and because of Gaider allegedly saying: "Actually... we almost did slip something in there. We mentioned having the interrogation end with Varric meeting back up with Hawke and explaining that he'd told them everything. 'Everything?' 'Don't worry. I skipped the part about us...' "

I can't find an original source for that Gaider quote though.

He must mean the dwarves that didn't actually look a thing like dwarves and hurt my heart all throughout the movie. *silently crying*

Of course, in DA:O if you're a dwarf in a romance with Alistair, you have the option to be insecure about being a dwarf and ask him if he loves you in spite of your race, to which he replies "I love you especially because of that!"

How bizarre. The text of previous post refuses to appear so I'll try again:

I'd love it if Varric was a romance interest. I usually romance females when I can, but for Varric, I would totally make an exception.
He is so wonderfully different from the LIs in DA2. He's charming, funny and doesn't come with emotional and/or physical baggage. He's the kind of guy I'd be interested in.

That said, I doubt he'll be an LI.
It's just a gut feeling, though.

(And I really wouldn't mind being corrected, Bioware.)

I've actually heard that audio file! Don't ask me where, but it was magical. It was only set to appear if you were a female(maybe also male?) Hawke who didn't romance anyone in DAII. Kind of like Javik, but pleasant. Image IPB

I would absolutely love it if Varric was a romance. I wanted to romance him in DA2, but if they were planning on saving him for Inquisition, that would be just fine with me.

My personal feelings are that I hope very much he isn't a LI, mostly because I have no interest in romancing him, and that would leave me only one other male option. So that would have to be a GREAT option LOL But, I would smile for all of you guys if he were in fact a LI, because I know a lot of folks out there really wanted him.

Maybe, but he seemed to have a serious moment of "I can't keep living in the past like this" in the comics regarding her.

I think you inadvertantly brought up a rather unfortunate point. A huge chunk of the fanbase wants Cullen as an LI, another huge chunk wants Varric, and another wants at least one new male LI. Now if we awesume they stick to 2 Male LI's per game (sebstian doesn't count) as they've done in the past, someone isn't going to go home happy.

He kinda did didn't he? But I'll only believe he's really moved on if he stops carrying around a crossbow named after her. Or sacrifices it to save someone. That would be deep yoh.
