I think the female fan response to Varric probably surprised the developers, in much the same way that Garrus did. I would not be surprised at all if Varric turns out to be a love interest.

I've actually heard that audio file! Don't ask me where, but it was magical. It was only set to appear if you were a female(maybe also male?) Hawke who didn't romance anyone in DAII. Kind of like Javik, but pleasant.

It was supposed to happen if you didn't romance anybody in the game and chose all the ♥ options with Varric

I would be very happy to see Varric as a companion again. If he turns out to be a LI as well in DAI it'll be icing on the cake. I would definitely romance him in at least one playthrough. He is one of the most awesome characters in the DA universe. He is smart, sarcastic, dashing, and ruggedly handsome. What more could we ask for in a male LI <3

You can't have heard it, because no line was ever written or recorded. It was just something we talked about doing. We never actually did it.

I must be really weird, cause I have no interest in romancing Kossith, Demons, Flemeth, or Dwarves. ( even if it is Varric ) I like him as a friend but I have no romantic interest in him.

Brian Bloom?  Probably, he's been involved with basically every Bioware game within the last 6 years I think.

Varric is THE paragon of manliness, he has to return. Plus it would be ironic if he died in the game because he was badmouthing bianca in a cutscene and she jammed on him in battle.... just a thought. ... ...MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!! *cough*Hack! GAG!* Ooooh... sumthin stopped.. *THUD!*

Exactly this. I'm pretty much keeping an open mind when it comes to DA:I, but now that we know Varric is involved, I can't help getting my hopes up. ^^ Don't get me wrong, I'll still be happy to have him around in any capacity for wit and chest hair purposes, but a girl can dream.
