Lots of good responses here, and I'm sure BQ will do her part in PM.
My suggestion? Dutch courage.
Yep.. that old one... the solution to every problem a guy could ever have. ;P
Totally agreed on that.

The first time I used my mic, I had just gotten it and I didn't actually know anyone. I started talking to a few guys that had mics after we'd just finished a bronze run. I thanked them for the games and they sent me friend requests. I played a few more games with them after that. Mostly they'd start by joking with each other, because they knew each other irl and I would add a comment or two - I'm actually a very shy person.
The only reason I started chatting with the people that got me into my mic usage was because we were introduced through a mutual "friend" and so I felt comfortable because that friend was around. This friend that introduced me walked me through my very first (and accidental!) gold match, so that's how I got to know him. I played a few games here and there with him before we got comfortable making conversation.
As for these random BSNers that I've added, I sort of rely on them to talk because if no one else talks then I won't have much to say...
It's really just dependent on your comfort level. If you feel comfortable discussing something or you have a topic, bring it up. Otherwise, start out small...say thanks, ask questions about the game, etc.
Limbs shy pfft gurl pls. You're quite the chatterbox when we play!

To be fair Crimson, you're rather chatty yourself.
