I was looking at some divine-based character options, and I really liked the flavor of the Warpriest. However, there seems to be a general consensus that levels in this PrC are a waste, as typically even just taking more levels in your base class works out better. So i wanted to brainstorm a few ideas of what sort of custom tweaks could be made to the Warpriest that could actually make it a viable choice for divine characters (hopefully without making them overpowered in the process).
First, I took a look at the PnP stats for the class, and there ae some differences which could be changed. In PnP, Warpriest levels add to the strength of the turn unead ability, so why not add that to the NWN2 Warpriest?
Also in PnP, the Warpriest gets a bonus cleric domain. Since the Glory domain is not available in NWN2, I was thinking the War domain would be fitting. Of course, this is a fairly minor improvement, and I'm not sure how it would work with base classes other than cleric which don't have domains, but it's just a thought.
As a side thought, I've also considered removing the "Remove Fear" ability. As far as I can tell, it's a replacement for the PnP "Rally" ability, but it just seems a bit redundant next to Inflame, and I figured it could be replaced with something more useful.
While bringing the class more in line with the PnP version, these changes still do not address the primary concern most players seem to have with the Warpriest: the reduced caster levels. This is the first reason I see used in any discussion about why the Warpriest is a bad choice, is that it reduces the power of a caster without offering much worthwhile in return. I suppose there are two ways to deal wth this; either improve the caster level progression, or add in enough extras to offset the loss.
As improving the caster progression would seem to be the simplest option, I thought I'd stick with that. The only question then is whether the Warpriest should have full progression, or if there should still be a slight drawback (such as missing the first level like an Eldritch Knight).
So the question now is what else needs to be done? Would these changes be enough to make the Warpriest a decent option, or does it need more? Maybe something along the lines of the Divine Champion's bonus feats, or the Doomguide's turning feats? Or woudl these changes already make the Warpriest overpowered, and do more drawbacks need to be added to compensate for the caster progression? Or would changing everything necessary to make the Warpriest viable also make it unrecognizable?
Any thoughts or discussion welcome!
What would make Warpriest a viable chhoice?

Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with the Warpriest. A lot of PrC are more about roleplaying flavour than balance of power; there are some PrC classes that are overpowered and some that aren't - that's just the way they are. Rather than work over the Warpriest, why not implement the Fist of Raziel? That's a valid PrC that delivers all the power that people are missing.

I've played as a warpriest, and found it a very powerful class even with the limited spell progression and lack of 'turn undead' progression. Then again, just about any character comes across as 'powerful' in the OC.

I'll start by saying that I don't see much point in this thread. The WP class could have been different, but so do others.
It's pretty much useless on clerics and favoured souls. It can have some use on melee druids and shamans, but those classes are not that great at melee by that time, WP doesn't really change that fact, and they're still heavily affected by the halved spellcasting progression.
So I guess I'd start by giving WP more spellcasting, maybe add some melee bonuses or something, and... remove stormlord from the game?

I don't think Warpriest was ever intended to be a spellcasting class, per se. It's a fighting class with some religious overtones - basically an alternative to Paladin.
