I can't run Medieval 2: Total War. It keeps coming up ith "app is alrady running".

I've changed the compatability to Windows 7 and run as administrator. I don't have a "Launcher.exe" but a "Launcher" instead.

I had issues like this for Rome: Total War where it kept crashing and changed the compatability to Windows 7.

Oh and I looked at task manager, Medieval 2 isn't there so I can't end it.

Will I have issues like this for Endless Space and Galactic Civilization 2?

M2TW is known to be a pain in the behind due to the launcher being rather on the broken side. I'm guessing it's what causing your problems as well. And what with official support for the game having been dropped ages ago, it's not likely to be ever patched.

Hunt down your M2TW install folder inside the Steam folder and rename (or just delete) launcher.exe to something else and then rename medieval2.exe to launcher.exe. Or try using this replacement launcher.

Have you checked "Processes" too or just searched in "Active tasks"?

Because unless Steam borked up and is giving you a false error message, it's likely that you might find a M2TW associated process running in the background, or at least trying to run, which might be cause it to not show up properly in active tasks, but would still block trying to start the game all over.

I don't have Launcher.exe or Medieval2.exe. Just Launcher and Medieval2.

I'll try the replacement launcher.

EDIT: Nope, didn't work. **** this game. Can I get a refund from Steam?

I tried restarting Steam and shutting down the laptop, then clicking on M2 instantly and yet its still running in the background.

I've seen this before, on task manager I have no options apart from End Task, Switch To and New Task...

No, I mean the "Processes" tab. It's alongside with Services, Network, etc. You will find all running .exes listed there. If there is any M2TW associated .exe running, you can find it there, close it and then try to run the game again, or apply other fixes you found.
