So over the weekend, as planned, I finished up my "refinement" playthrough of ME2/3 with my canon shep. Felt good to put that Shep out to pasture. I didn't have much left to do - only had some of the buddy missions & the party on the Citadel, then assault Cerberus and Priority: Earth - but I still planned on breaking it up over Friday & Saturday nights. Once again I found that once I start the assualt on Cerberus, there just isn't a good stopping point anywhere in the final act - I just have to push through and finish the story. This has happened with every play-through I have done, so it shouldn't have suprised me when I was dragging all day Saturday after only getting a couple hours of sleep.
I had been telling myself for awhile now that this run (my 3rd consecutive) was going to be my last foray into the MEU for a little while, lest I burn myself out on Shep & the crew. I even had the latest Bioshock Infinite DLC loaded up and waiting. But after putting the wife and kids to bed and firing up the Xbox on Saturday night, Bioshock just wasn't doing it for me. Tried GTA:V, Farcry 3, FIFA - even a few minutes of Forza - but nothing worked.
So back to ME1 I went. My new shep (Jacob) is a spacer - war hero - soldier; a by-the-book, "military is my life" man all the way. I think he will end up being a bit of a paragade - haven't decided if he will pursue any relationships yet.
I usually get burned out on games after the intial playthrough - I might try to replay a game I really enjoyed but I usually flame out early in the game, and it takes me forever to actually finish it. I remain amazed and how the ME trilogy continues to hold my interest like no other game (or book/movie/tv series) I have ever experienced.
I agree about the assault on the Cerberus Base, once you start it, you might as well just stay and finish the game, because it's pretty much the point of no return like going to Ilos and going through the Omega 4 Relay, it makes no sense to just stop.
The first time I started the mission it was 2am, by the time the credits rolled it was after 6 and the sun was almost up. Like you I had to drag myself through the next day, unluckily for me that next day happened to be a Monday
