And they're fickle and whine when they don't get their way.
Sorry, it's true.

Garrus is pretty much the same case but he got a smaller fan base than Tali.
SuZe is pretty unique and exotic character, not to mention bald & attractive. How can people not talk about her?!
I don't get Thane myself but he must have charm of his own...
Since the game isn't out yet, there really isn't too much to talk about besides characters/LI. When the game is out we will see a lot more discussion about story, game play, etc.

This. What the heck else can we talk about one week before game release?
Next week, you'll see different threads. Like, 'How do I kill Grunt in the suicide mission?', 'Where do I find Mordin?', 'HELP!!!! Where do I get fish for my fish tank?', and 'Miranda doesn't want to bang me what do I do???'.

My personal amusement.

Well, it is inevitable. But at the same time there will be some very good topic/discussion, whatever they will be. Just the natural of a game forum.

Why is it that some characters are shrouded in controversy and obsession and others not so much, is it because they are possible or confirmed romance plots? Or is it some intrinsic quality of their character designs that seems to polarize people?
I am curious.
there is a venerable cult of people who want to romance tali.
subject zero had an awful, cringe:pinched:-worthy reveal trailer that many people flipped out over.
damn near every freakin announcement had some controversy or obsession spouted across 50 different threads. its not so much teh polarizing nature of them, but the polarized nature of the forumites.

Article one,
Article two
article two is a a subtrope of this one. which helps to explain it further.
I like playing mysterious characters in table top rpgs, but I've learned that olther players hate it when I do that.
People want to see faces, because faces are the best way to read someone, you can tell a lot about what a person is feeling by looking at there face, especially the eyes. Faces are what make the most impression in a persons mind.
So when you cover that face up it takes away that element we identify with living breathing beings and less of a human relationship then say a relationship with your toaster. Also it tends to make that person look suscpcious and distrustful, because then they got something to hide.
Now this is great for faceless mooks, because we don't want or need to care about those people, we don't care about their motivations, their needs, wants, or desires, we just want to shoot them.
Also major villains can get a pass here as well because the lack of the face adds to their sinister look.
It doesn't work so well with important backgroung characters or protoganist however, because we spend a great deal of time with those characters, so things get personal, and when things get personal, you need a face.
Now you can build up a dramatic moment by making the audience wait and build up the ancipation, thus pulling a Samus or in the case of Tali, a Hawkgirl. But if you make the audience wait to long they're going to get frustrated. And yeah it might happen in ME3, but thats another $60 people have to shell out, when they were expecting it in ME 2.
So to sum it all up if you want your audience to be emotionally invested in a character like Tali, then they need to be able to to eventually see her face. A romance scene is a big emotional investment. Withhold that from them and Shepard might as well be making love to a kitchen appliance.

As a moderate Tali partisan... Tali has a certain mystery to her due to the fact you never really get to "see" her. Thus she is an oracle for people to make her whatever they wish.
Plus, her character truly is one of the most sympathetically written and played of the bunch...and has history with ME1.
I say this as someone who has played through and romanced each of the three possibles in ME2. In the end, my favorite tends to be Tali for the reasons stated above.
