The best comparison I can find is one that does not exist, Game of Thrones(My feelings of it is similar to pre-ME3)
Everything happens and at the end all the characters die in a natural disaster, The End of the show.
Now imagine how much worse that would be if it was interactive.

I'd probably watch the natural disaster and the fail of the show multiple times just to get an idea of how bad it is.
But that doesn't mean I like it, I live life but that doesn't mean I like it.

ME2 wasn't perfect, pretty far from it, but I had a lot of fun playing ME2, ME2 made me eager to play more ME games and to spend more time exploring the ME Universe and interact with all it's characters. ME3 was a hateful gameplay experience for me, I get very little enjoyment from playing it. ME3 made me hate and despise the ME Universe, made me hate and despise Bioware, it was like they Casey Hudson and Mac Walters decided to burn the whole entire ME universe down because they were tired of working on it and they did not want anyone else to have anything to do with it.

That's why Walters is writing on the new game and a series of new comics?

I am well aware of Mac's continued involvement in the ME Universe. Does not change the fact that's the way ME3 felt to me, ME3 guts almost everything that I loved about ME1 and ME2, it barely even feels like a ME game anymore. It feels like Mac and Casey lost all thier love and respect for this franchise and it's core fans, at this point and stage they are just working on auto pilot and they are just collecting a pay cheque.

Yeah, sure.
And The Red Wedding makes sense, actually. It's not just a random event to kill characters.

Couple things.

ME2 in its own context made sense. There were no ****** dems or series burning retcons. Sovereign was still himself, Cerberus was slightly more competant than ME1, etc.

It was ME3's job to vindicate and connect the dots in the plot gap of ME1 & 2. Unfortunately, ME3 ignored what came before outside of references and characters. On the latter it couldn't even get that right.

Well, ME3 on it's own, make sense... sort of.

Is that just an example of "It would be bad if this happened" or a spoiler? The former I hope.

Deaths happen aplenty in ASOIAF, but not like that. Final books haven't even been written yet.

Liara was a disaster in ME3.

ME3 was Liara's best outing IMO, other than the Shadow Broker being treated as background information to read on a terminal. She was a far more interesting character in the third game than in the first.

You can fit all of the "objective" criticism found on the BSN in a thimble, folks.

This may be slightly off topic, but I think Mass Effect 3 was a lot better designed that Mass Effect 2. For a start, the difficulty curve in Mass Effect 2 was atrocious. Considering the main enemy factions of the game were Mercs, Mechs, Collectors and Geth, they were very bad at pacing them out and being conservative with enemies.

There were only 3 types of mechs and you'd seen them all by second level of the game. Garrus' recruitment mission had you fight every single merc group in addition to several boss-type enemies and a gunship- that should have been the final merc level, not one of the first. You fight two geth primes and a unique Colossus in Tali's recruitment mission and her and Legion's loyalty missions were cakewalks by comparison. The Collectors get easier everytime you encounter them.

Compare that to Mass Effect 1 & 3, which at least tried to have a progressive difficult curve, holding off on the tougher enemies like Primes and Banshees and raising the stakes progressively. It wasn't perfect (Grissom Academy springs to mind) but it tried.

My favorite part in ME2 is how you only fight the Collectors, the main antagonists of the second game, three times over the course of the game.  You spend more time killing nameless mercenaries unrelated to the plot than you do actually fighting the villain.

That was one of my complaints with ME2 as well.

I thought some of the squadmate loyalty/recruitment missions should have been tied in with the Collectors or other Reaper allies. You spend a lot more time blasting random mercs than you do Reaper troops.

And now we've uncovered one of the weaknesses of video games as a storytelling medium.

You need mooks to shoot. And you need lots and lots of them. You need them early and often.

I found it odd that there's no Praetorians in the Collector base.

Mordin, Grunt, and Jack's recruitment missions have hints of Collector influence. But its barely there and quickly fades away after Horizon.

So what's wrong with adding more collectors instead of the mercs?

I didn't shoot any mooks in Journey, Flower, Last of Us (trololol), Shadow of the Colosuss.

Mordin's recruitment mission is a freak of nature for ME2 for various reasons; You actually have a real reason to recruit Mordin, his mission is tied to the collector plot and the Blue Suns and Vorcha are given more of a grey portrayal(by ME standards anyhow).

RE: Jack's RM, it's never made clear who Warden Kuril intends to sell Shep/Jack to AFAIK. So, that being tied to the collector plot is debatable.

The same problem with any enemy. You have to come up with a justification for why Shepard is fighting them.
