I'm saddened this problem still exists, I just bought the Steam Ultimate edition and I have to claim I am also another victim of this issue. I read everything on the boards about it thus far and I just hate giving up hope.

Slowly loading gets longer and longer, Denerim becomes hell-like very fast with 1-2 minute load times and delays on things like looting and on the map screen during travel. I do everything I can imagine to treat the symptom, but it only delays the inevitable.

I just can't ditch this feeling that Bioware is taking the ignore it till it goes away mentality. Which saddens me as I love their games even when they are buggy, but this isn't a game play bug I can simply avoid; this is something that literally makes my game-play slowly unenjoyable.

We can speculate and take our different vantage points on the true source of the problem, but all I ask for is someone from BW to take a true and honest look at it, and give us some feedback. After all this time though, I highly doubt that. Let's hope they surprise us.

Today I had new hope about finding a way around this. I kept playing regardless of the lag, crackling was annoying so I disabled the sound. Eventually DA crashed and while it was closing I checked out the memory.

Dragon Age had reached just over 1,500,000k.

I'm suprised my computer didn't blow up. I won't be trying that again!

BioWare? Fix something? MWHAAHAHAHAHA

Btw, this thread is one year old. They didn't come with a solution in one! year. Care to wait for another year?

I personally don't think we'll see another patch. If we do, great, but I don't think so. It's not even really bioware anymore, only in name. EA's touch rots everything.

I'll help you out, d\\/de!!

Bump! We need a patch that fixes the memory leaks as well as everything about Awakening. Come on, you lovely baby boys and girls, don't it make sense to support the one good game in this franchise? Forget about the failed, rushed-out-the-door sequel. Here's your chance to fix something that can be fixed.

This is a bandaide fix, and will help lessen memory leak related crashes:

This really works best on Visa or 7 64bit.

Get CFF Explorer from www.ntcore.com/

you can then edit the dragonage2.exe file and tell it that it can use more than 2GB of memory. Changing this will let DA2 use up to 4gb of memory on a 64bit OS.

This doesn't work so well with a 32bit OS, but if the 32bit OS is setup properly, changing this flag lets an app use up to 3GB of memory.

Once u use cff to open dragonage2.exe, click and expand nt headers.
Then click file header
Go to the Right side of the Characteristics line and click where it says "click here"
click it, then a window will open
click the checkbox "app can handle >2gb addresset"
hit ok then file, save

This by NO MEANS stops or solves the memory leak.

all 32 bit apps can only use a MAX of 2GB of memory unless they have a flag that allows then to use 3GB on 32bit OSes (if the 32bit is set up properly) and up to 4GB on a 64bit OS.

All this does is let the game use 2GB more memory on 64bit OSes. Thus it will take the game longer to crash from a memory leak from hitting a 4GB limit vs a 2GB limit :)

This works on all versions, steam, d2d, disk based, eadm, etc of the game. This trick also works with DAO and DAO:A to help get around that game's memory leak they never fixed
