more techy people here than me. just another confirm. blah x3.

secondary: pathetic there's no official word. if a bazillion systems that meet or exceed the recommended specs are having this problem, bioware needs to acknowledge the problem.

teritary: matthew CT(un) is a shill + troll (shroll? trill?). ignore his completely useless and OT comments.

This is a big problem, and it is very disapointing that Bioware/EA doesn't bother to write anything about it.

Maybe they are afraid to make it public that the game is buggy though... Could scare customers perhaps--

A Bioware dev has actually responded on it in another thread (there are quite of a few threads about this problem), saying it is something they are working on resolving.

Unfortunately though, a leak of any kind is notoriously difficult to find and fix once introduced into software as the leak could happening literally anywhere in the code base (opening a door, talking to someone, changing areas, equipping a weapon, looting etc. etc.). So, even though they are working on the issue, a fix may not make it into the next patch.

If it helps them, I notice it happens quicker the more I transition between locations. This also happens to be the only time the game has frozen on me... gathering my people and traveling.

It appears to me that each transition is noticably longer than the last.

The leak(s) have to be pretty major considering it fills my 12 gb of memory in 4-6 hrs of play. Got I7 and 2x 280 gtx on a X58 board in case it helps tracking down the issue any. And yes the load times definatly increases each time "zoning", is the previous zone flushed properly ?

Been working with some insane servers in the days and its not uncommon that the srver software spawn workertherads that do a certain set amonth of work then terminates saving everything then resume on another spawned thread in order to effectivetly eliminate all the memory leaks ect. Mayby something to eliminate the issues here until they can be resolved the real way... save the game each zoning occures and then let a new fresh thread take over loading the newly saved position in the next zone....

I too em having similar issues I'm in the procces of testing a few things atm but I'll get back with what I find out a bit later but personally I think its a combination of heat caused by the 100% CPU usage and a major memery leak. :(

What if it's a more related to a heat issue caused by the excessive use of the CPU at 100% for a long period of time ? As I've noticed my CPU temp quickly jumps to around 53c when playing this game and I've never had a game do this before and I have more then adequate cooling for my system. Before I got this game my CPU idled at 24-27c and load was around 38-44C an that was playing Crysis in ultra high settings so yes I do think this game has a few flaws that need to be addressed asap or people are going to not just get sick of playing a game that becomes unplayable after awhile but also start burning out there CPU's cause of the excessive CPU usage because of the game. Something else to note is that my rooms temp is always around 67-72F so heat shouldn't be an issue for me but since I started playing this game it has been, it's almost as if you need a water cooled system to play this game when using all of your cores on your CPU as I have to limit my AM2 X2 5400+ to use 1 core to bring the temps down but that also degrades game performace by half so that alone is annoying in its self lolz. XD srry for the double post :o.

Computer temperatures are OK and there's nothing wrong with my computer specs - so I'm glad that I'm not the only one who is having problems. Bioware better release a patch to fix these issues soon. The game is not unplayable, but random area transition crashes between a few hours are irritating.

Well, last week my game ran fine.

After a fresh install for some mods, i began to notice some stutters.

As I move into a dialogue, the stutters increase, and after 10 seconds or so, the stutters are so bad, they look like freeze ups. It freezes for 20 seconds, jumps to smooth gameplay for about half a second, and then it freezes up again.

Also, this happens randomly when exploring, for no reason.

A thought just occurred to me, what if its a video ram memory leak and not system memory that's the actual issue ? As I've been noticing that nearly everyone that has the problem also either has a 512MB or 1G card, so is the game having issues releasing the cached video memory that it doesn't need when we zone to a new location or is it a really a combination of the 2 ? Either way BioWare needs to fix this soon cause its damn annoying to play a really good rpg only to get issues that nearly render the game pointless to play till its fixed. >.<

The more I play and the more I encounter this issue, the more it seems to be a video memory management problem and not a memory leak.

I say this because even though RAM usage does go up a bit, it never really hits 100%, or even high enough to cause massive load times or a significant performance hit on high end machines. An even bigger clue to the problem, was after installing the HD textures mod, the issue starts manifesting MUCH quicker, 2 hours of play as opposed to 3-4 hours or so before UNBEARABLE load times set in and eventually in game stuttering.

I don't know of any tools to monitor video memory though, I've never really had to before.

Yeah well that's what I thought. Only thing is: Sometimes this 'freeze' occurs after 1 hour of gameplay, and other times at 7 hours of gameplay.

Also, I noticed this thing happens more often when big plot changes happen e.g. meeting some important person for the first time.

Exactly. When I start up the game, RAM floats around 60% and hours later at 75%.

About the HD textures mod, I've uninstalled it and the problem still persists, sometimes even quicker than WITH the HD textures mod.

I would like to know if this is a texture loading problem, or a memory problem of any kind.

Maybe increasing the Page File of Windows could help, don't know..

I was really hoping to have some quality time with DAO this weekend, but the these problems really help to break the immersion.

I don't think increasing the page file will help much as I have a 8G page file an I still get this issue :(.

many people here are complaining about ram , some one above blamed bioware for giving false ram requirement, so please before insult me, it's you who should read all post first. Well i can understand that in a forum no one know your real identity and because of that, you feel free to insult others whenever you want?
About the OS, i said most -not all of course- people who have problem use win vista and win 7, and this is from "many" other "slow down" topic not from this topic alone. That's why i say "try" to use xp 32, and "maybe" it can help them. i'm not an expert so i just suggest. If you are using xp32 then you can just ignore my post. Do you really need to say "dumb thing" ?

I was just poking you not my mind to insult you :3 to be clear with that all i wanted to say was it dont come from the os or ram its looking more like a chipset issue.

Thats my current DxDiag in a nutshell (8gb ram when I replace a bad stick) and I only start to get the bad load times AFTER I alt-tab or play for 6hrs+ straight.

I have never had bad framerate issues and play on max settings.

I have actually left this game open when going to bed and came back and it ran fine with maybe 2minute load screens on larger areas.

Maybe I am just lucky in this sense but I don't have any issues running the game for prolonged periods except the slight increase in load screens (which I don't really mind considering my old computer probably couldnt even run this game :P ).

Here is my game just loaded it up after just turning on my computer I alt-tab out to take the SS of the memory usage and I get another crash. You can see what it is using at the start memory wise. I threw in my widget into the screen as well to see total used.

Nope.
I have a ATI HD4870, 512MB and dont get the memory leak problem.
Must be something else.

I doubt it's a vista/win7 issue. Bioware officially said that DA would run "very well" on win7. So either they lied about that before, or they are finding out that it isn't running "very well" on win7. Since I don't have any problems playing other games, ones with better graphics, that pretty much leaves me to believe that it's an issue with DA itself.

They need to stop working on DLC and get those people on the team to fix these issues. I don't care how much extra content is available if I can't play what came out of the box.

i wonder because the video card im using is a ATI Radeon 2600HD XT and it has 256 mb of memory and im not having these problems so maybe its the people with high memory video cards like 512 to 1GB

You need to understand that people working on DLC are not likely to be the same people patching the game. Completely different skill sets in many regards. So, people saying they need to quit working on DLC and fix the issues. It is very likely two different teams so, quitting on DLC would not make the issues get resolved any sooner.
