The only way to properly kill an abomination is to let them grab you, and then throw it down and crash its head. Other ways are in fact unintended and result in old buggy piece of ME2 code kicking in.

Wait until there's an abomination in the middle of a hack circle, then as a krogan, headbutt it to death, making sure it's the 2nd kill you need to activate rage.
That way, your krogan is engulfed in a gigantic explosion, whilst guffawing
RUUUUUAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!
as your 3 team mates all faceplant around you, you stride through the flames unscathed.

The only true way to kill them is to lock them in the reactor with said teammates.
Other than that, Sir Dr. NuclearTech is the resident expert on abomination killing near teammates. I've seen his work firsthand...dastardly I say.
