Why would you want to avoid them? If you don't take the game too seriously it can create some really interesting effects.
No time to make it to the extraction zone? No problem! Use your Charge on that possessed abomination to cross the map. The added bonus is driving the now dead abomination to the other side of the LZ. I picked up Lone Survivor the other day when I did that. Not intentional, but absolutely hillarious after the "oh sh#t" moment when I blew up the rest of the team. Didn't get kicked, so the rest of the team must have been laughing at least a little.
Seriously, how are you supposed to kill abominations without hurting yourself or your team?

I like the explosions too much to really care if a team mate gets ganked in the process the key is to always revive them right after. The most douchy move is to kill one that is grappling with a team mate. I never use hawk missles on a destroyer, but it is hilarious when a team mate does and the hawk missles kill the abomination when they don't intend too and it wipes them or a team mate out.

Do it like my team mate did today. They missiled the LZ 2 sec before extraction and blew me up with abom. They got lone survivor. I guess it was what I deserved after clutching waves 7,8, 9 and running pizzas wave 10

Was blown up yesterday by a teammate with true style. As I was lured to the last enemy of the wave and note that it is a possessed A-bomb... I turn just in time to see the Cobra missle launch... Kabooom!
Pretty sure he had spent the last minute of the wave protecting that abomination from harm just to do this.
