Assassin's Creed has not been about what is at its "core" since the first game. AC II was about Ezio getting revenge, had nothing really to do with the Creed. They "lost their way" a long time ago.

No, no! Ezio's personal enemies just happenned to be conveniently affiliated with an "evil" illuminati organization seeking world domination.

It falls apart at the seams so hard if you think about it. But then again, the AC plot has never made sense in the grand scheme of things.

tbh That depends on the franchise, some can work well as a franchise (e.g. Fallout, Halo, Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls) since they have so much to build off., Others are better off with having a few games only (Uncharted) and others maybe just better off having one game.

Blood dragon was a spin off expansion so we will probably get something else along those lines again if it sold well

Sheer amount of hostile penetration Uplay pulls off stands head taller among all other DRM. They could base new franchise around that. In it, they already have  groundwork for some deeply disturbing rapesim.

Obsessing about franchise can cost both game and franchise. Inevitably what once was cool and interesting begins suffering from Mario Poker - phenomena. Assa Creed lost much of it's soul and flavor when sailing to the New World. They should have steered towards French revolution instead. New World could have used a new franchise. Spinoff, perhaps.

Decision to do otherwise doens't much bother me with Assa Creed III, but Black Flag sounds much  like a different matter. On  purely conceptual level, combining exiting, fun, rare things such as sailing and piracy business to whole weightload of Assa Creed Franchise is incredibly idiotic.

What I mean by that is made hurtfully obvious  in Black Flag trailer;  Real Pirate© sits in tavern and speaks in highly respectful tone of some ridiculous silly super cool bathrobed hoody Jedi ****lord.
Effect brings to mind (an admittedly not existing) trailer to  Hell's Angels - The Movie.  In it, a dirty, bearded, big, rough looking fat biker guy sits on his Harley.  He tells the camera: " Yeaaaah our leader is super awesome. Amount of owning  and killing he pulled.....whoa. " Cue to Orlando Bloom being a Legolas, surfing on shiled and shooting orcs with his bow. Different worlds, different franchises. Different rulesets. Different people. Goddamnit.

Seriously? They just came up with THREE in the last two years.

It does (fall apart). That's why I personally don't worry about that. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief pretty far if I think they can do it compellingly, and I do feel it has been so (though I admit I'm an anomaly--I found ME3 compelling too).

My main concern about AC is that, as I said above, releasing them that quickly can result in it becoming stale.

I would also be worried that if the series ever didn't sell enough they'd just ditch it because it was no longer "franchise material".

oh absolutely! I absolutely agree. We're talking both sides of the coin here.

I'm just trying to be non-cynical :P

but more on a serious note. Yeah that's pretty much what happened to ME3. From the interviews of the Devs (at PAX conference and others) they writers like: Dumbrow and Patrick (as others) were on pressure for the release date was much sooner then ME2 development time

The last thing I want is for them to half ass job on it and turn it loose to ca$h in the revenue.

Also: your last post I agree withalso . Let's hope it doesn't come to that...:?

I know, which is why this whole no new IPs unless we can make it a franchise thing is weird to me. Ubisoft comes up with some good stuff, but this whole No IP unless it can be a franchise thing makes no sense.

I can't really think of a game that couldn't be a franchise. Since it's not like you need direct story links to tie game editions together.

What makes you think this is something they just pulled out of their rear a week ago? This is most likely something they've felt for years. If it's something they've felt for years, and they've just released three new IPs, that tells me we have nothing to "worry" about.
