Hopfully they can cut the chore like planet scanning in favour of more substantially beefy content. Seriously all that planet scanning buisness was nothing more like repetitive filler especially for players undergoing a new game +. All that planet scanning, AGAIN! uhhg... at least Mass Effect 3 got it down to it's bare essentials which was good. Had to refer to http://www.gamesrada...el-and-credits/ to know where to find the places of interest, better than having annoying reapers chase me.

Here's hoping Bioware nails it this time. Citadel was perfect. If that type of dedication and thought can be emulated throughout the adventure of ME4 I'm going to swoon. No more tedious, chore like collecting.

And Mass Effect 3 was "The best place to start"

Gonna take a lot more than that to convince me.

Isn't that what they tried to do with ME3 too?

Citadel was perfect

That's not what "perfect" means, unless you want ME4 to be a random collection of stupid minigames, injokes, fanservice and a half-baked covershooting (yes, let's throw in a stealth segment into a game without the infrastructure via a kludgy uber OP pistol).

Roy never used the word 'appeal' in this case. He only responded to someone asking if there'd be a new Genesis in the next game, saying it was too soon to tell, but that the game would be friendly to both new and old players. I think that's an important distinction.

At least I hope that Bioware won't try and cater to as many people as possible. They still might be, but I think this article is twisting his words ever so slightly.

Says itself the first game of a new storyline is gonna be friendly to newcomers storywise since it probably wont be related to the previous 3 very much with Shepard gone.

If they try to cater to as much people as possible ruining the game remains to be seen though, as the storyline and plot holes was the only major issue with ME3 with that approach aside from certain rpg elements being cut out along with lacking character interaction in some cases, the combat was pretty solid even with that but im not getting my hopes up.

I hope by newcomers, they don't actually mean casual gamers. Because you can't appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers. You usually end up pleasing one or the other, or worse, neither.

Im sorry this is a little off-topic, but someone please remind me when that screenshot used in that article is from. The one with the reaperised husk. I've played through the trilogy countless times, but seem to have forgotten that moment.  Thanks.

It's just a generic statement. If I was selling it, I'd pitch the same thing without knowing what it's about. I jumped into the series with ME2 without knowing anything but that it was an RPG shooter, and virtual buddies with depth could die. I didn't feel lost at all being a newcomer. Genesis and the codex filled me in pretty good.

Reading the article, to me that statement simply means to me that they are going to balance the game not to require a save import so you don't have to play through the first three games. If I had any authority I would tell them to drop the save import and then use it again in the following game if they make another after.

Nothing new...
All games try to bring new people along the way.

It's stupid to rely 100% on the existing fanbase.

Hope they have someone to maintain setting consistency. Conflict with the first and true Mass Effect will be a black mark. Otherwise it will just be the scifi equivalent of Final Fantasy. Each game has rules unto itself and disconnected metta plot.

I just want a Better Story, New Characters Weapon, Locations, New Hun=bs, Simulators and Vehicles and Exploration. That is all.

These so called Newcomers had their chance before, focus more on LONG TIME FANS THIS TIME!! I want a New Story. New Playable character of any species and new things to do and see.

They said the same thing about ME3.

It's just another way of saying "everyone come buy our product".

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's the reason they said this game will be "Newcomers friendly", almost everything will be new, there's no need to play previous installments, after all, it's a fresh start.

It's all just marketing BS anyway.
Well, for the next ME (starting a new story and all) that marketing line and that strategy actually make sense though (as opposed to last time)..

It's just saying they have taken design decisions with the intention to cater for both new and returning players. It's not marketing exactly, it was just an off hand comment on twitter after being asked a question.
