Those were the days. I always enjoyed being the expert out of my brother and I on the art of the cartridge. More often than not he couldn't get the cartridges to work properly so I had to step in and show him how it's done.mybudgee wrote...

It was a sad day when the era of the cartridge consoles ended.

What cartridges were small? O.o...gameboy? The only system cartridge that I can think of that much smaller then a disc would be maybe the N64 or Atari but weight and bulk wise they were alot bigger. Unless you include the disc case in which case I will state...cartridges had cases also, whether you used them or not is your preference.

@bmw, I never said it was your decision, I was just saying that it was something that I really enjoyed about the games back in the day. ****I**** think it's a shame that those things you mentioned in your post are no longer emphasized. Those things were things that ****I**** enjoyed. If they don't put those things in the game, it's their peragotive. I'll just enjoy it a lot less than I otherwise would.
I was referring to your post where you implied that it was "my opinion."

The customization is still there in those games.
Only this time, games are now more focused on the things that matter to me. Such as chassis tuning, engine tuning and less about cosmetics.
Fixed
Maybe you will think twice before you make some half-hearted reply like that in the future.

When you refer to game mechanics that "matter", you're obviously interjecting your opinion into you analysis somewhat.
Perhaps, but it is counterproductive when you simply dismiss my fairly reasonable explanation with such childish response when I'm trying to contribute something to this discussion.

I do aplogize. My reaction was just a part of me overreacting to what I thought was you calling the aspects I enjoy in games trivial in a thread where I asked other people what they missed in games. Basicially I lashed out at what I thought was an undue response in an undue exchange. Though your reasoning is valid, and thus the reasoning for the companies taking out the features is valid, the fact that I do miss those features remains. Like anyone else, I do have the right to complain about things that will never change. Irrational yes, but it does feel good from time to time.

I honestly don't miss game manuals. I think that when you need a manual to teach you the controls and learn about the story, the gameplay and writing department screwed up. As always: show, don't tell!
I also like that games are easier today. I'm not that skilled a gamer (reaction and precision mainly, strategy I do well) but don't want to miss out on great experiences. For those who like it harder, there's often (but not always, I'm looking at you Assassin's Creed) a difficulty setting.
