So I'm about to start playing Mass Effect 3 after playing the first two games with all DLC installed. I have all of the DLC for ME3, but I won't know when the best time to play them will be. Avoiding any spoilers, when will the best time be to play the DLC's in order? Also I've heard the Citadel DLC can be started anytime halfway through, when should I start that also? Thanks!

From Ashes I like to play asap since it offers a new character.

Leviathan I tend to spread across the entire play-through; it has 3 combat missions, the last of which I do as the last mission before the 'point of no return' stage in the story-line.

Omega makes sense as a retaliatory act against Cerberus about half-way through the game (trying to stay vague here).

Citadel is the only dlc I don't own, so I'm less sure on this.

Eamon has a pretty good order. I spread Leviathan out along the way, doing the final mission right after Thessia. I'm saving the Citadel party after my Destroy ending as a headcanon ending.

Headcannon? im assuming that means Canon just longer.

Only one that made sense to me given ME's amazing story, considering i spent 2 other games just blowing em up.

Alas i wish Leviathain had been base. a few more missions like that and ME3 would have blown up.

In respect to the OP, i perfer to do From Ashes right after the game start, for no other reason that the character has some amazing lines.

Leviathan i do a mission after each priority, saving thend one till just before the cerberus base. Otherwise it just doesnt fit in right

Omega is an oddball. it can really fit in where ever you feel like it. i perfer after i help the slarians/Korgan

i dont own Citadel, mostly because it just didnt seem to fit for me. too much like "I know the galaxy is about to implode, but.....HOUSE PARTY!!!!!!"

Agree on the first two. Levianthan I spread around. Running the final part right after Thessia. But I start it as soon as I get it, Some good fights in the DLC.

Citadel I run after the game. To me, it's the real goodbye, not the current endings (though I don't have a problem with the current endings). Citadel is sort of like the last episode of a long running TV series. It's outside the timelone, so to speak. Citadel is very good, by the way. Its very funny and light (sad too at times). I think it breaks the mood if played before the final battles.

Damn. Now I'm in the mood to play them again. In the middle of Deus Ex now (which is also verey good).

From Ashes I do early (reason should be obvious)
After that I do citadel shortly after it becomes available (fun DLC, plus I like having the Apartment and the Silversun Strip available)
Then I do Omega before I hit the Rannoch arc and then I do Leviathan after Thessia.

Of course I save the party from Citadel until the last thing I do before Cerberus HQ so I can invite everyone to the party.

You know if you continue playing after the end, you'll start off before Cercerus HQ. That's why i run Cidatel after the final scene. I treat it like the last horrah with the crew.

The quote feature isn't working for me today for some reason. Anyway @elrofrost. I prefer to do Citadel before cerberus HQ because it takes place before the big showdown with the reapers, besides not only is Shepard dead in 2 out of the three endings but the citadel is wrecked and messed up after the reaper occupation.

I have to disagree on From Ashes. Because of the way the Atlas mech is introduced in Surkesh, I think it's best to do Sur'Kesh before From Ashes.

Leviathan- I do up to Mahavid's mission after Tuchanka, up to saving Ann Bryson from that place I can't remember the name of after Rannoch, and the rest after Horizon. Those are the points when the plot "breaks"

Omega after the Citadel Coup

Citadel- the mission after Rannoch, the party after Horizon

@SilJeff I get what you are saying about the Atlas but for me Javik has too many priceless comments not to get him as soon as possible.

Headcannon basically means having to reconcile some of the more questionable things in the series (mostly involving the ending) in order to make it make more emotional sense. I place the party after the Destroy ending to give proper closure to the story.

And you really, if ever inclined, should get Citadel. It's great fan service, as well as the Armex Arsenal Area providing great replay value.

On the other hand, I like bringing the Virmire Survivor on From Ashes. Leviathan should wait to start until after you meet back up with Samara, because an enemy introduced in Samara's mission is present in the first Leviathan field mission. Likewise, Omega should be saved until after you get the Virmire Survivor back, for enemy introduction reasons. Citadel should not be started until after you get Tali back, and I save the big party for right before the assault on Cerberus HQ.

What does the atlas have to do with anything? I mean with Javik? Also, I dolove Javik on SurKesh, especially with Wrex. ;0

You know i always did Ashes for Palaven. I think my next play though I'll wait until after Citadel. I never thought of running it with any other crew but James and Liara.

From Ashes: after Sur'Kesh

Omega: after Citadel Coup

Citadel: after Sanctuary. After Rannoch if Miranda is dead.

Leviathan:
1st part before Tuchanka
2nd part between coup and Rannoch
3rd part before Cerberus HQ (last thing before endgame)

Actually, Javik gives some priceless quotes right on Sur'Kesh. So getting him aboard ASAP is highly recommended.

Agreed, but that level feels like it was made for Liara and Garrus. Actually, Javik is way better if you have Wreav instead of Wrex.

"What are you supposed to be?"

"Prothean."

"Really? And how many of you are left?"

"Enough to kill you."

Yep. I always do From Ashes after the Citadel coup for the extra dialogue the VS has.

Play Citadel after the game. It makes no sense canonically, but I maintain that Citadel was thematically written as the "last" thing a Mass Effect trilogy player would experience. It's pretty deliberate in its themes, writing, and content and what the player is supposed to reflect on, despite obviously not taking place post end-game.

Don't mean to resurrect an old topic- but I figured that it was better than starting a new thread for such a small question. I just completed the Citadel DLC's mission, and I'm currently on Priority: Thessia. I want to save the Citadel DLC's party until right before the endsequence. How much can I do on the Silversun Strip without accidentally triggering the party? How do I trigger the party when it's time?

Also, several squadmates invited me to meet with them on the Strip, can I talk to them without triggering the party? Thanks to all.

After you've finished the missions it's suggested that Shepard should have a party in the apartment, and you have to go off to shop for party supplies. You can delay this for as long as you want since the party doesn't start until you get the supplies. The squadmate invites are separate and you can do them before the party.
