Gamepro is whats over-rated. Good thing I don't put too much faith in others opinions of games ... after all their just opinions and you know the old saying "Opinions are like a--holes, everyone has one and some of them are just full of sh-t

"The combat mechanics in Dragon Age: Origins are pretty much identical to Baldur's Gate from 12 years ago. You select some spells, click on some enemies, and then watch the computer have all the fun while you sit back and twiddle your thumbs. Correct us if we're wrong, but hasn't the RPG genre sort of moved on since then?"

alright. you're wrong. and this is me correcting you.

It's a shame how so many greay game magazines have come and gone like Next Generation, Gamefan, Ultra Gameplayers, etc... yet crap magazines like Gamepro and Game Informer still flourish.

Game Informer has, I'd argue, artificially inflated subscription numbers.

You get a subscription with Gamestop's Edge card.  A good deal for Gamestop, and arguably for the customer (unless you consider being forced to read Game Informer torture or something) -
but it makes the magazine seem more successful than it technically is.

I remember in the late 90's Game Informer would shove so many stupid ads in their magazine that they ended up becoming useful since I was able to hide my playboys in them during Highschool.

While I like the combat in oblivion, fallout 3, etc. better, DAO has story. And the reason it's the same, in case they haven't noticed, is it's a "dark" fairytale in a way. In stead of the princess/prince venturing out one day for adventure with sweet goodbyes, you have the noble who is betrayed by an old family friend, who (forcefully) leaves their parents, one coughing up blood. Instead of the "Imma be evil cus I can" villian, it's a man in a desperate need to rise in the ranks, feeling he'd make a better king and willing to risk the land to do so. So... you just... you just smell, gamepro!

I rolled my eyes during that entire article.

It came off as "Hey, we loved these games when they first came out, but now we've had months to do everything, so we don't play them anymore. That must mean that they all suck now!"

I love Dragon Age more now then when it came out.. And at that time i would have given it about a 9.

I'd push it up to about 9.2 now.

Sounds like someone didn't get their kickback check.
