Hey there,

I have tried to research this, but it seems easier to ask.
I am a sucker for games that have factions and/or character classes which also have meaningful impact on the plot.
For example, in Gothic 1 and 2 where one had to go through various ranks and quests to rise in an organisation, which also worked as a character class. I also loved that the mage class changed how the world reacted to the player character in Dragon Age: Origins (I missed it a lot in DA2).

What are the games out there which have this? Most of the RPGs today, or well, which I have at least delved into, tend to just ignore the speciality of the character. I have not seen as in-depth faction system as in the first two Gothic games anywhere else, but then again, I have been rather casual for years now, meaning not so many games to play.

I had high hopes about this for Oblivion, which almost fulfilled it, and Skyrim, which rather failed in it.
So, can you help me? I have found that I am desperate for something like this as of late.

Drakensang River of Time has a few different quests in the first chapter depending on the class, ie a warrior will join the city guard, while a magician will go to meet the local mage, a thief to the local guild, and an elf to a ranger who lives outside the city. But AFAIK, after that it´ll become the same for all classes. Stay away if you thought DA:O combat was slow, though, Drakensang´s is slower.

Fallout:New Vegas for factions.
Baldur's Gate 2 for classes exclusive content (more than DAO)
Arcanum for special quests depending on your skill choices.

Well, as much as I love the feeling of a faction in MMO games, I am currently more on the look-out for singe player ones. But thanks anyway.

I have been curious about the Drakensang games for a while, but every time I read something nice about them, I always find something bad once again. I do not mind the special content being minimal, I would just love it to be persistent throughout the game.

It has been a while since I played Arcanum, maybe I should start again. I was a lot younger when I last played it, probably missed a lot because the game just buries you in it. Maybe I can borrow Fallout or Baldur's Gate from someone... BG series kind of just went past me, possibly because of the poor gaming market here.
