His skills.
His skills would have only kept him alive until the gunship at the latest. It's convenient that Shepard arrived right before they were sending it in. Plot armor by timing, if you will.

Garrus can die when his plot armor is no longer needed ala the suicide mission. I'm not arguing that Liara has no plot armor, she does. Liara, Joker and Hackett make everyone jelly with their plot armor which only get's taken off when there is no more use for them.Necanor wrote...

Bombs tend to kill people. Bombs, elite mercenary organizations and SPECTRES, kill more. She should have died, she didnt, plot armor.David7204 wrote...
Liara does not have any kind of plot armor. These complaints are ridiculous. There's no evidence at all proving Liara was in a position of certain death.
But he can be killed later, Liara can't. Garrus has plot armor, but far less than Liara.

Could you give some examples of "plot armor" for which we can learn from, teacher?
Frankly, I very much dislike the term, and hesitate to use it myself.
Pirates of the Caribbean. The Kraken attack in the second film. Literally every member of the crew, (and there looks to be about 100 of them) is killed except the main characters, none of which are even injured.

Why am I FORCED to have Joker? Bioware must all be Seth Green fanboys.
Why am I FORCED to fly the Normandy? I want to use a bathtub with thrusters attached instead.
Why am I FORCED to recruit squadmates? I just want a sockpuppet and space hamster to follow me into battle.
Why am I FORCED to save the galaxy? Bioware are showing their pro-galaxy bias.
Why am I FORCED to play as a human? Humans are so overrated, I wish I could kill them all.
Argumentum ad inrideo. An appeal to ridicule. And an appeal to spite. Along with a general misinterpretation of the argument for choice in character interactions and consequences. Unless you were supporting us.

And it didn't work. Liara was somewhere else. A perfectly plausible and sensible explanation. All of the evidence points to it.

First of all, everyone else did not die. As I said, Shepard comes across a guy who was alive until he was shot. We see people on the ground, and of course the mercs all over the place.Mr.House wrote...

Secondly, Liara is experienced and on alert. She has barriers and armor. She had just been attacked, and had every reason to suspect an ambush.

I do agree that the term is too vague to have any real significance other than personal opinion, and that goes for both sides.

The explosion - which was only 1/2 it's strength due to the other bomb being a dud - didn't even kill the damn salarian. Tela and her minion had to shoot him.
Moreover, it's never actually confirmed Liara is there. They blow up the building because they think she's meeting with the salarian, but it's never explicitly mentioned that she's there.
So, there's two good reasons for her being alive. Pick one.
