Not verbally, since verbal arguments tend to move so fast that you can't keep track of them (although many are recorded and analyzed at later dates.)

But in textual arguments, yes, indeed people do this. Professionals do it. 

Take an argument/persuasion course. I guarantee your professor will mark off every fallacy he or she sees.

You just made a genetic fallacy by the way.

I think she's very good for drama if you romance her and subsequently leave her for another character (Miranda in my case) in ME2. I do agree with her xenophobia. Truth be told, my Shepard just wanted to get laid. His feelings for Ashley in ME1 were rather ambiguous. He didn't know how he felt about her. There were a lot of things (such as her speciesism) that really bothered my Shepard.

I always saw her distrust of aliens as more of a character flaw that can be worked around, rather than an irredeemable trait. She always dies in my canon femShep playthrough, but I did finally spare her in an alternate, and it's not bad.
