Hey, if you're going to play "what is an RPG," you have to put up a candidate. What's your definition?

Sandbox experience? FO or TES
and then there is TW2.....which almost has it all....TW3 might be the quintessential RPG

That's not a definition, that's an example. It's not even a general example like mine was, but a hyper specific example.
Personally, I think you are overcomplicating what an rpg is.

you know what Brotarian after 15 years of running chronicles of WOD games, ADnD, Ars Magica and Cyberpunk I have a fairly clear idea of what an RPG is.....and essentially anything you have extensive control of a role is a Role Playing Game, point is if you go by that definition you end up with either watered down experiences or overly hybridized systems which will always end up leaning more toward basic game play and less toward the traditional pen and paper born RPG mechanicsDarth Brotarian wrote...

the op made me laugh pretty hard. But basically he, or she, is right about ME4. But this is to be expected. EA is just doing what EA does, so who really cares. ME4 will be a good game, but it won't be great, or amazing like ME1 or ME2 or even ME3 were. Good game. A decent shooter. But that's about it. This is what you should expect from ME4.
If you want a truly great next gen action RPG, just play the Witcher 3. It will deliver and exceed all expectations.
ME4, DA3 and the "bioware RPG" are dead and long gone. So you know, just move on and enjoy it or don't. Don't be to hard or criticized BioWare- I actually think they cannot do any better and this is about as good as it will get, they don't have the talent or ability to make amazing games anymore. So don't be to hard on them.
This post pretty much sums up everything that is wrong with this community.

oh they did.....it generated a non importable file so.....I'd you choose that as your canon ME3 does not happen
You know what I am getting at. If the next ME title is to take place after ME3, Bioware will have no choice but to establish a canon.
The fans should not be so naive as to believe that the developer will respect everyone's choices, since developers of other series have selected one canon ending out of multiple others in the past.

Fair enough, but I don't see what's so good about the penn and paper system. Or what makes hybridized games so bad.
Or for that matter, what experience will be getting watered down by a definition? It's a definition, not a gaming standard. You can have varying degrees by which a game is closer to a penn and paper rpg, it;s not a zero-sum issue and I don't know why your approaching it like it is.
Also, shouldn't judge a game more on its content than if it has a genre label slapped on it or not?

If Bioware was smart, this next series will completely disavow them.

because the more you lean toward the hybrid mechanics the less of RPG mechanics you are left with and you end up with a TPS sporting open dialogue and irrelevant customization and non existant RPG mechanicsDarth Brotarian wrote...

if that is the case Bioware needs to market it to me as a tips with open dialogue and not an RPG

ME4 was confirmed a while back, you're obviously new around here.
Nope, he isn't new here.
He's just returning after every DLC and bigger announcement and trying to revive his popularity of one of biggest creator of hate-threats on BSN (2-3 per day during his best days). But when at the beginning his thread were elaborated and made sense, at the end he was just repeating same things again and again.
I wouldn't have to repeat things if people actually internalized them rather than saying "h8ter lol" and passing that off as a legitimate criticism.
Do you think I enjoy still being angry about something like this a year and a half on? I wish ME3 was good, but it isn't, regardless of what the gamespot review generator tells you.
That is your opinion. I have enjoied Mass Effect 3 since launch. I don't think any game could have lived up to the tremendous hype generated by the media, EA/Bioware and the fans. Aliens was the true disaster of the current generation. Of course this is only my opinion.

Wrong indeed, or perhaps "wrong" is simply an understatement, at least a word to sugar coat it.

lol yes I do believe you still enjoy being angry. your life is clearly devoid of......everything so you fill the void with whatever you get your hands on. if you weren't "angry" about ME3 you'd just find something else to **** about. THAT'S WHAT YOU DO and on that note, change your avatar to Mark Henry.
