Focus on the Phantoms, depending on which class you're playing take advantage of EDI's skills to take down their barriers. They're by far the biggest threat, and because you're in a confined space with the floor being obliterated you can easily end up sticking to a wall by accident and getting stabbed.

Which class are you playing? And who's your other teammate?

Which Kai Leng battler? Thessia or Chronos station?
What class are you playing? Knowing your class will make it easier to provide better advice.

Stasis for Phantoms is how I did it the first time. Stasis on Shepard plus Liara in the squad locked down two (at least) at a time.

More recently, it was just damage, damage, damage as fast as possible. Specifically...Tac Cloak > chunk a couple Inferno grenades into the spawn > open fire with James' squad incendiary while also firing off Incinerate = fire everywhere. Occasionally throw in an EDI Incinerate and James frag grenade for good measure. MULTISPLODTASTIC. Most of the Cerberus goons were dead before they moved.

I think I was using the Lancer.  Maybe the BPP.  While the Black Widow was my primary for that run, I prefer a full auto for the Leng fight.  More forgiving if you miss or have a target right on top of you.

Most important, really, is just to keep moving and fire at Leng whenever there are not more significant targets (read: Phantoms).  If you destroy the spawn while they're still in their spawning animation, you're free to then spend more time on Leng while your squadmates mop up any remaining dregs.

I am intrigued by the possibilities of what was in the post originally.

I guess if the OP comes back we can find out what part he was having trouble with.  Otherwise:

Thessia: Position squad behind last row of pews, use weapons and anti-shield powers and he won't get near you.

Cronos: Try to take down mooks quickly, then use anti-shield powers and weapon fire against Leng.  For the Phantoms, if you don't have Liara, strip their barriers with EDI's Overload.  They should cloak and hide at that point, and then you can simply shoot them (if you pay attention).  Or you can make them bubble with a projectile power and shoot at them.   I typically just park the squad in the part of the floor he first breaks, away from the control panel.

For Vanguard: Charge + Nova everything to death.

For Engineer: Spawn Combat Drone / Sentry Turret on the Phantoms and then overload their barriers. Follow up with shooting. Then shoot Kai Leng to death.

For Everyone Else: Grenade Spam the mooks, then shoot Kai Leng to death.

If you are using a Tech class (preferably one with Overload) focus on Kai Leng with powers designed to destroy shields. When the Troopers come out, focus on them and take them down quickly. When the Nemeses and Trooper come out, focus on the Nemeses and Troopers and take them down (Nemeses first). When the Phantoms come out, focus on the Phantoms and let EDI and your other squaddie on Kai Leng. When you take out the Phantoms, Kai Leng's shields should be gone, allowing you to finish him off.

I did the battle flawlessly on my first run with the infiltrator:
Step 1: Have Garrus in your squad.
Step 2: Equip him with the falcon found at the start of the mission.
Step 3: Spam BW/cloak combo, falcon staggers and overloads.
Repeat Step 3 until everyone is dead.

Liara's bubble stasis would also come in handy, but Garrus + Falcon is just too powerful!

Take Liara with you and stasis all of the phantoms and take them down first. At least that would be my assumption. I haven't tried ME 3 on insanity but I hear that the multiplayer is much much harder than the single player and I have solo'd gold. That is generally how I handle phantoms in multiplayer and the Phantoms are the biggest problem cerberus offers imo. I like Adepts in this game also so I tend to take Liara everywhere and play as an adept and take a solider like garrus or ashley with me. If they are dead maybe consider taking tali for her combat drone because it trolls the hell out of phantoms.

I appreciate I'm probably late answering this thread but I came across a video of Kai Leng being completely locked down by the Lash power. I haven't really played with any Biotics in ME3 so was wondering if Lash was overpowered due to it's seeming ability to work through shields.
Here's the video, has this power since been patched?

it would be helpful if you have the Dominate skill "Assuming Direct Control". none the less, this skill is really fun and amuzing at times :P

*in honesty you need the Leviathan DLC for the "Assuming Direct Control" skill :P

I played Soldier class:

-Equip Incinerate Ammo.
-EDI's Decoys
-Always be in the floor bunker Kai-Leng isn't at.
-Shoot from afar.
-Kill the spawning Cerberus troops immediately.
