This post is not about a problem - it is in fact a celebration of a solution.
A few minutes ago, I clicked on a link on my desktop - "Stuff I Changed" - which opened a folder where I have backed up all the 2da's, scripts, uti's, etc. that I have changed in NWN2 Overide. The thing is, it shouldn't have opened. I'm looking at the folder and it dawns on me, "Wait a minute. This harddrive has been dead for months. I should be reading and error message right now."
Anyway, I browsed through the resurrected drive and everything seems to be there and operational. Hallelujah.
...
A little background - Monday, my lamp went out and I was out of lightbulbs, so I spent the evening in the dark (learning that my touch-typing is nowhere near what it should be). Yesterday, I got some bulbs, put one in the lamp and power went out in the whole house. After flipping all my circuit-breakers off then on, I turned the computer back on but stopped before trying the lamp again. I let the computer completely boot-up (which it did without incident, thankfully) until the drive lights went out, then tried the lamp in a different outlet. It killed that circuit, and it also killed the computer again (despite it being on a completely different circuit). After some experiments that narrowed down the problem strictly to the lamp (the outlets and even the new bulb work fine in every other case), I junked the lamp and turned the computer back on, again without problem.
Could that faultly lamp have been causing that harddrive to not spin? All the evidence points to that, but in any case the drive is back and I am one happy reptile.
That drive would have gone in the dumpster if not for the various NWN2 links that I left on the desktop to remind me to re-back-up various things, so indolence and sloth score a big win today as well.
It Lives!!!
