Bot Teammates

I've played two games recently that have this feature; Gears of War: Judgement and Fuse. In both games, you can start out by yourself with the other slots on the team occupied by AI bot teammates, and they're actually passably competent. When someone gets inserted into your match in progress they seamlessly take the place of one of the bots.
I've thought to myself that it could be fun if you could assign any of your characters to be your teammate; weapons, level, and specs included. For times when you can't find anyone to join your game, or if you just feel like playing by yourself but don't want to solo, having bot teammates would be a great feature.
Matchmaking could still function just like it does now, where if you have it set to private, no one will join, otherwise a friend or a random player could join at anytime and take over for a bot, and you would also have the option to start off with fewer than three AI teammates or solo with none.
I hope ME4's MP has this option. Or course it would require smarter teammate AI than ME3 had. AI that can recognize an enemies protections and use powers accordingly, such as a Human Engineer that has Overload and Incinerate at his disposal, knowing to use Overload on shields and barriers and incinerate on armor. or a Human Adept knowing to use Warp on an Atlas instead of Singularity. But if they can make the AI smart enough handle things like that, I think it could be an awesome addition. Just give them 150% or 200% shields to make up for being AI.

Why did they have such bad pathfinding?

The 360 has 512meg of RAM, and the PS3 has 256meg. The Xbox One will have 8gig of DDR3 and the PS4 will have 8gig of DDR5. That should ease a lot of the pain of AI limitations I would think.

Payday: The Heist also has AI bots when you didn't have a full squad. They're mildly useful, but it was annoying when someone joined your game and took control of one of them because the game would stop for a bit while they connected into the game.
It would be much more difficult to program capable AI for ME than for those games though. And since lobbies still fill quickly I don't see the necessity.

Like I said, this would be an option for those who want to play MP, but want to play by themselves, but might not want to actually solo. And for what it's worth, lobbies don't fill up fast for me. I sometimes sit for a half hour waiting for a lobby to fill up before going in solo, expecting players to join in progress, but no one does. The lobby is open and my NAT is open, but I often have no one join for a long time. Sometimes I just give up and play something else because seemingly no one is playing.tjh_ca wrote...
I only played the demo, but Fuse also has the ability to switch between which of the 4 characters you are controlling if you don't have a full group of players. Kind of an interesting idea.

Oh, god. Judgement's partner AI is flipping horrible. I cannot state how many times I got screwed over by the partner AI. I'd rather take ME 3's sp AI over Judgement's partner AI. It's that horrible. As for having AI in ME 3 MP, I'd say no because at least with me, the bots are real lunkheads. If you can command them like in SP, then I'd be ok with it.
It could be worse. It could be Ally AI like Halo.

It simply adds an option. If you don´t like it - don´t play it.
There are enough people out there that would enjoy such a possiblity.
However it will never happen.

Thank you. This was my thinking too, which is why I suggested it in the first place. I don't get people sh*tting all over it when ultimately it would be an option that players would be free to enjoy or completely ignore at their own discretion.IoeShepard wrote...
I like the Idea. Some Pugs can be worse then any AI on the game market.

And what many seemed to miss is that I was thinking about things I would have liked to have seen in ME3's MP and this idea is one of those things that came to mind, I know that's never actually going to happen in ME3 at this point and I was really suggesting it as something that would be a welcome option in ME4's MP.
And I also pointed out that I realize ME3's A.I. is pretty underwhelming, which is another reason why I hoped ME4 would introduce this feature, thinking that the exponentially more powerful processing and memory of next-gen consoles, along with more powerful and advanced next-gen game engines would support significantly improved A.I.
As you said, some pugs are bad, and I'll add that some players are antisocial and prefer not to play pugs, or sometimes you can't find a match, it extends the life of the MP after most players have moved on, etc... All valid reasons why the A.I. bot teammates could be a nice OPTION, for those who choose it.

I doubt the AI would be able to perform decently.
So...no different from your average gold PUG.

It would also allow me to host and not have to deal with 2-second lag anymore. It can be quite irritating to require 6 Javelin shots to kill a Nemesis when she kept teleporting around, which was what happened in my last game.

If that were the case would that mean if you search for a game you'd most likely get set in a game in progress filling a bots place?
I think it would be best handled by having the lobby leader select how many slots are hard set as bots or something.

I was basing it off Gears of War:Judgement, and Fuse, in both cases an incoming player who is joining in progress automatically takes the place of an A.I. bot. It worked pretty seamlessly in my experience.prostheticlimbs wrote...

But I could also see the option to choose all bots, or however many bots you want to be set firm. The more customization options for that the better I think.

There are several things I wish could have been implemented into multiplayer, but one I've been thinking about lately is bot teammates.
I'm not convinced that this would be agood idea.

I prefer the approach of Borderlands 2. You can play yourself just fine. But if more players join the enemies get harder and you get better loot.
