Pfft!! Death didn't stop Leliana from coming back from the grave! Imagine my surprise at seeing her in the end of DA2. She seemed pretty dead when I killed her in DAO.

I honestly don't think he'll return, but I have no problem with a cameo only for the people who didn't purposely screw him over if he does.
Yeah, a small cameo would be so welcome. Alistair's cameo in DAII was really nice despite his appearance changes. Fenris and Aveline are by far my favorite game characters ever, and I can only imagine how glad I'd be to know they're ok during DA:I events.

But... with a cameo of him talking about how handsome and good lover my Fem Hawke is, i'm satisfied.

Why are so many people assuming that the dead person in the trailer is anyone remotely relevant to the plot? Varric is just observing the scene, and he is wincing at the general loss of life and devastation. There is zero indication that it is someone important. It's actually kind of annoying to me that people keep assuming that one of many covered bodies that all look the same is somehow someone important to the universe because Varric looks down on it.AutumnWitch wrote...
Over all I would like to know what became of him, Isabela, and Aveline. (Though I would bet money Aveline is the dead women in the new trailer.) (of course my Hawke and Merrill are living happily ever after in their mountain hideout)
Regarding Fenris, I would like to see him, but as was said, only to the extent that we saw Zevran in Dragon Age 2. His story has already been told, so it would be nice to just get an epilogue to it, so to speak.

Fenris (along DAII Anders) is my least favorite character of the franchise.

You do know that he's recruited via a completely skippable sidequest, right? And even if you do that quest, you can still refuse his offer to join you. And even if you do recruit him at that point, you don't have to have him in your party or even talk to him. Plus there's at least two other instaces where you can get rid of him.
I can understand disliking Fenris, but I really don't see why you'd feel he's "shoved down your throat".

There's too many amazing characters in Thedas and the new games give us a chance to hear their stories. Brief cameos are fine but unless there's a reason related to the plot that require certain characters to be there it would just feel forced due to fan pressure . -coughhobbitlegolascough-

Sometimes, it isn't overexposure in the game so much as overexposure elsewhere, e.g. the forums. It's surprisingly easy for ambivalence or mild antipathy to turn into massive hatred in the face of excessive fan squeeage. This isn't unique to Fenris fans/anti-fans, of course. It can happen with any character in the game. People who have been turned off toward a character can usually avoid triggers by avoiding designated squee threads, but when the threads crop up too frequently or spill over into unrelated topics, it gets overwhelming.arakat wrote...

On topic, I don't think we need to see Fenris again. He was fine as a companion and once I stopped trying to create a Hawke who could romance him, I learned to like him in a friendship capacity, but I don't think he is still relevent at this point. He isn't really tied into any of the continuing DA2 themes. His hatred of mages was intense, but it was personal, not political. He had no interest in elves, Orlais, or Chantry affairs. Had he shown any interest in reforming Tevinter and eliminating slavery there, I could understand seeing him in that capacity, but his interest in the plight of his (former) fellow slaves ended with his own freedom. Unless there's another spirit of Justice floating around to galvanize him, I just don't see him taking on the Tevinter Imperium to improve the lives of people he didn't care that much about to begin with. YMMV, but I don't like to see characters return for the sake of fan service.

In the final sequence of DA2. If you side with the mages and have >50% rivalry but less than 100%, he will fight you and you have to kill him.Bionuts wrote...

And Gideon Emery really brought it home by his phenomenal voice acting, always throwing just the right amount of "stank" on Fenris' lines. Honestly, the fact that you so deeply hate the character of Fenris shows just how much talent went into creating him.
I thought the character was well written and well played. I want to see him just one more time in Inquisition.

Ahem.
Truthfully, I wouldn't mind cameos from DA2 companions or other characters, especially if they're conditional as Nathaniel and the Harrowmont assasins were. Failing that, Gideon Emery's voice is welcome in my ears under another name, too.

Fenris has been one of the most hated characters in all of DA since I joined the forums in Fall '11. I have to assume that all this fan squeeage you're talking about took place before then, but it has pretty much stopped since then and has been confined to the Fenris thread. Occasionally he will come up in a "who's your favorite romance?" or "who would you like to see again?" thread, but so do all the other characters. He's usually on the lower end of fan polls.
People who hate certain characters or aspects of the game here on BSN just seem to have very intense, repressed feelings of hatred in general. I've never experienced that kind of intensity towards something like a video game. I mean I'm not a Morrigan fan, but I don't burst out complaining that I'm tired of having her crammed and stuffed down my throat. Because I'm not; she's just a video game character, and although I sighed when I saw her again, I just shrugged and went on with my life. (And certainly didn't enter any Morrigan-friendly threads to complain about her... what would that solve?)
But at this point you just expect hatred and vitriol when you start any thread on the BSN, especially a character thread. People are very bizarre... and I think in general just need to meditate more and perhaps get into yoga or tai chi....

Moto, I completely agree. It's a video game, not a religion. I can't think of any character I *hate* from Dragon Age. Though I try to remind myself that the users acting too serious about DA may quite possibly be kids. ("Kids" to me is anyone under the age of 23.) Some people tend to hang onto that 13 year old mentality ten years too late. It's difficult to understand who's actually behind the whining/complaining that seems all too similar to the same griping that spills from a teenager's mouth. In addition to that, maturity levels can, at times, affect one's ability to say, "Meh, it's not real. It's just a game! Time to go pay my bills."
But of course there *are* immature adults around here too. That's just scary...

(I never actually killed Fenris but bringing back characters who could have died in previous games is a bad idea.) On the bright side if Fenris doesn't show up in the next game maybe they can hire his voice actor for a different role. I hated just about everything about Fenris (contrived angst, anime look, some terribly written dialogue,) but *that voice!*
