Why do you think this forum is filled with people spouting some variation of 'Done with Mass Effect' but still spend time?

Cause like a pimp and his hoe, they know she love it.
Anyway, care to continue where we left off, monsieur david?

I imagine canonizing synthesis would be the opposite of being friendly to old and new players.
No, however BioWare seems to fancy it the idealized world and the Catalyst does foreshadow its inevitability. Thus, Synthesis is the only "ending" you can arguably justify as canon, at least if they go x amount of years into the future.

Its portrayed warmly because galactic gene rape is so much less endearingDavid7204 wrote...
Not really on topic, but the reason why Synthesis is portrayed warmly should be completely obvious.
Because it has to be. If the endings aren't portrayed roughly equally, they aren't 'morally ambiguous.'

That would really depend on how successful the character is at actally being good or not.Darth Brotarian wrote...
Hey
david, I'm looking on the site for a trope that matches an older
character, mercenary or bounty hunter type turned lawman who tries to
act good, but whose checkered past and own buried demons tend to come
back to haunt him all the time. Prone to violent outburst and willing to
go into a sort of full on "I will kill you, your children, your family,
and your dog if you even so much as think of starting trouble here
again" type mode to protect the people and things he loves. A good black
hearted person who still has some moral compass wedged deep inside him
somewherer.
Any suggestions? The sites search function really sucks there.
I'd
say a good 80 to 85% of the time he's a decent guy. Wouldn't be above
taking bribe money and than double crossing the briber. Or taking over a
low time gang to act as his informants on the street. But he isn't like
a crocked cop or sith lord or anything like that.

Because we want to be wrong.
We want to believe that Bioware can turn itself around and make the quality games it used to until a few short years ago. Even though we can't see ourselves continuing down this path with Mass Effect (and maybe Bioware in general) we still hope that maybe this really was an anamoly.
We're hoping the horse will sing.
Oh Davie, y u so silly? That is not true at all.David7204 wrote...
That just sounds like a plain old anti-hero to me.

It's stuff like this that leads me to suspect that they're leaning on a spinoff or a prequel that takes place before the ending of the trilogy, to avoid any backlash regarding ending canonizing.

It's portrayed warmly because they want you to choose it over the other two. See pre-EC autodialogue pertaining to it; Shepard didn't voice a word of protest, rather, agreed that it was the "ideal solution" to the premise Shepard wasn't allowed to challenge from the character we have no reason to trust. It's the "artistic" ending (Adam and Eve! Brave New World meets End of the First Matrix!).Steelcan wrote...
