Are we gonna see these in DA:I? Combat Mage staffs similar to the Staff of Parthalan

We won't find out about anything like this for a while though the concept of combat staffs sounds pretty cool.

Similar to the Destiny Trailer in Dragon Age 2 for Mage Hawke

As long as we have as wide of a choice and as good staffs as we did in DA2 I am not going to complain. I loved the staffs in DA2.

I am not sure what you mean by a combat staff, do you mean on that you can use as a physical weapon as well? if they do that they will probably bring back the whole arcane warrior type of thing which I didn't care for.

I would like to see the actual sizes of the staffs get a bit smaller. Some of them were so big it was cartoonish.

don't know if we will see those. I would like to have throwing knives, if you're a rogue, like Tallis in the dlc.

bow strings are more of a priority

I definitely want to see most staffs have some sort of melee weapon, like the blade for the Staff of Parlathan/Basarth-Kata or a spiked mace like with Sting/some other staffs. The mages are a guerrilla army now, so time to ditch the ornamental staffs for something more practical(this goes for the attire as well).

I would also like to see an ability tree for combat staves. Aside from typical mage spells, it'd be nice for combat-magic hybrids to be able to use an ability to skewer an enemy with their staff (and whatnot)

ITA. I'd like them to keep the blue/gold/red colour coding system out of tradition, and because I like it, but they're fighting a war it's time for mages to be a bit practical.

Arcane Warrior doesn't need to come back but mages without any melee attack whatsoever makes no sense in the circumstances.

Same with Archers not having to worry about CQC

There's a mod for that in DA2. I hope we can have that ability available in DA:I though ^_^

I thought of a specialization for mages which I have dubbed "Martial Mage" where the spells available would all have something to do with physical damage, and using the surroundings against the enemy, kind of like an Earthbender if you've ever watched Avatar.

I'd also like it if there was an option on the combat wheel (and PC equivalent of course) to switch from ranged, magic attacks to melee-based elemental strikes from a staff. Would finally give us the chance to fight like Hawke in the Destiny trailer for DA2, something I was very much looking forward to in DA2 but never got, and would make a tanking mage more of a feasible playstyle without crossing into DA:O's overpowered Arcane Warrior territory.

Sebastian pulled a dagger if he ended up in close combat, which could be a possible alternative.

Things that amuse and bewilder me: people who believe that a staff is not a melee weapon unless it has a stabby bit attached.

Agreed with Harle Cerulean... staves *are* melee weapons. They deliver blunt force, like maces, and can also be used to block enemy attacks. They do not need stabby bits.

Back to more realistic looking staffs. I didn't mind Andraste sitting on top of Malcolm's Honor in DA2 but the Staff of Freedom was some ridiculous rock tied on the end of a branch. I can't see clocking someone with that. While I'm at it let me say that most, if not all, of the weapons were ridiculous. I think the only plausible looking ones I recall were Isabela's daggers.

I never said they all needed stabby bits

It's a good alternative, but having a bow for ranged and close combat just sounds badass ;)

Well Varic stabbing people with Bianca if he close. And mages use staff as melee weapon.

No, it sounds retarded.

Bows are ranged weapons.
What's with this "crippling overspecialization" buisness, where someone has to be married to a weapon?

You're an archer? That means you must solve ALL of your problems with a bow.
Pfft.

Archers carried melee weapons for a reason.

...mages automatically started hitting enemies who started to attack them with melee with physical blows from their staffs. :|

And having a bow for close combat kinda, you know, defeats the purpose of a bow. Better having a dagger or something.
