Is soloing silver a good indicator of being ready for gold?

I found soloing silver really helped me improve as a player. I learned a lot about spawn points, using cover, defendable positions and when to move to the next one etc etc.

Now I'm thinking of using a silver solo to tell whether I can take a certain kit into gold and be successful with it. I'm generally pugging gold with a TGI because I know I can clutch a few waves if I need to. I use other kits in silver but I'm still not that confident about taking some of the squishy characters to gold.

What do you guys and girls think? Is soloing silver a good indicator that you can handle gold? Is there other clues? Topping the scoreboard (not my thing personally)?

Just enter a gold match with one of the other players being a jug. Doest matter how good you or they are, the jug will carry you through.

Confidence is a very underrated factor in one's consistency and ability.  You will fare better than you think in gold with some of those squishy kits you mentioned if you just use them and play with confidence.  Plus, I've seen you play, and I know that you can handle yourself in gold with more than a TGI ;)

Trial by fire!

Just grab it and get stuck in. Then you'll quickly how your build/loadout performs.

I'd say yes. I also think it's better to try making the jump with kits you actually like, rather than crutch set-ups.

If you can solo silver with a certain kit than you are more that ready for gold in my opinion, most people you see in pug lobby's can't do that. Just keep in mind that you will not improve your skills much by playing with a TGI or similar kits. Just pick a kit you like and try it out, you can always try to solo first few gold waves with it to test it out.

Don't get discouraged if the firsts matches in Gold don't go well, I am making myself the transition from silver to gold and I find the experience uneven, sometimes goes smoothly, sometimes is a complete disaster.

But if you can solo silver you are more than ready for gold IMO. Good luck with your teammates!, that's going to be crucial.

Just throw yourself into the fire. That's the only way to know if you're ready.

P.S. If it doesn't work out for you and your team fails a couple of times keep pushing on and trying. When I first started gold I failed a couple times and if I had given up I probably would have played a lot more silver

Yea, if you can solo Silver with any of the objectives (hack, pizza, devices, escort) I'd say you are more than ready for Gold as a team.

Just gear up and play with people who bring gear and appear serious, if you cannot play with friends that is.

Another option, start a "looking for Gold games" thread here when you are on. Post your GT and system in the thread Title. You'll get a LOT of great players willing to help you out and even show you some of the tricks of the trade.

Good luck OP!

You are ready
And the faster you start playing gold the quicker you will unlock better stuff, which will in turn make gold easier.
If I had it to do over I would have started playing gold much earlier.
I started playing day one and it took a long time to max my manifest because I was tentative moving to gold.

True Grimmy.  It's like the old military saying..."All plans are great until the first shot is fired."

Meaning you can use Narida/Kalaence, read Wikis, etc. but eventually you just gotta jump in and play.

Even tho soloing Silver can have you somewhat prepared gold is really a different beast altogether...especially if you're soloing. Enemies hit a lot harder and their focus on you when you are the only one left is alot more intense and relentless (try soloing against a few Banshees)...Image IPB
I too believe if you can solo silver you are ready for gold tho...i also find that for me, i use the same squishy character (phoenix vanguard) that i do at silver runs and still do pretty well. Just find a kit that you're good with and you should still be able to do well with it....Image IPB

Haha...riiight...doing this will ensure a false sense of security...even tho the perception is that there are better players on gold, you can still run into folks who are just bad Jug players who will wipe almost immediately if they don't know how to use them... it's best to try to rely on your own set of skills and hope your team is up to the task if you die a few times or wipe...

Yes, being able to solo silver is a good sign that you MIGHT be ready for Gold. However, the best indicator of you being ready for Gold is your confidence.

And don't measure readiness with results. If you play a Gold match with a new kit and die on wave 1,  that doesn't mean you're not ready for Gold. You have to have confidence, as well as open-mindedness. This will help you learn quickly to adapt. The biggest indicator, however, is how much fun you're having. If you play Gold and survive 9 waves, but have no fun, you're not ready. If you're having fun, it doesn't matter how you perform.

However, the only issue I see with soloing Silver to move up to Gold is that all you're learning is survivability, granted  you still have to have patience for the objectives. Enemy behavior, damage multipliers and spawn pools are much different on Gold. The way I 'graduated' to Gold was simply by playing Gold and getting wrecked until I could handle it. I've done this with several friends of mine who thought they were bronze-only material. I got them to play Gold, get wrecked and LAUGH about it, and wouldn't you know it, within a few weeks they're hardly going down.

Trial by fire it is then!! I guess it's just because I don't want someone to have to carry me, that's why I usually take the TGI. I enjoy playing gold with him because I can kill quickly and stay alive.

@dysonium yours is a great answer to my query. I'm really enjoying using the vorcha sentinel on silver so I'm going to give him a run in gold and see how I go :)

I hope you guys have got your backpacks on ;)

Most certainly soloing silver with a kit means you can take it to gold.  But, I wouldn't take so much time to do this when you can earn the piddly silver credits much faster on a team.  I try out new setups in silver and if it all feels good then take to gold.

Yes. Soloing Silver is probably *more* difficult than playing gold with average PUGs.  In all honesty though, the best preparation for Gold is to play Gold.  You probably won't be too much of a drain with any class if you are already doing reasonably well with the TGI in Gold.

If you start playing silver without consumables and do fine, then you also do good in Gold with consumables.

But don't use this bridge for gold to plat... from gold always consumables, can't mention it enough. You could however lower your standard to make the bridge easier first use level 3 and later on use the level 1 and 2 on gold and use the 3 and 4 on plat.
