Every now and again, I find myself subconsciously mimicking the breathing of Volus characters as they speak, and almost suffocating as a result.

You've said your piece a hundred times already. So I'll say mine. I think Hale did a great job. I think Meer was way too bland. And before you say "Have you ever met a real soldier?" The answer is yes. I live in a military town. I play golf at the VA as a guest of a friend of mine who was shot in 'nam.

Meer sounded in control and professional, Hale sounded too much on the edge. That works OK for a Renegade character at times. Meer's problem was carrying that on a bit too much when Shepard wasn't on duty.

Lol your user name is gay. Who name their user name after the German from world war 1. Anyways your just trying to strat a fight so shut the **** up.

You haven't been banned yet?

Fun fact: "Kaiser" isn't "the German's" name, it's his title. Wilhelm is his name.

Come on. If you are German, like me, you get a good laugh out of Turian_Ghost's post:D

I guess my vote goes to Jessica Chobot and to  Mark Meer.

Diana Allers sounded weird and Meers performance in ME1 was quite boring. I have to admit, that he vastly improved and in my opinion deilivers some lines in ME3 better than Hale.

I thought Meer was better than Hale, personally.

In fact Meer's performance was so spot on that I was often reminded of Mustangs (officers who were prior-enlisted) and Staff NCOs I knew while I was in the Marines. Hale turned in a decent performance as well, but I thought she occasionally had a tendency to overact, and her take felt less authentic than Meer's.

Liara.

So monotone with such a minimal range. Dare i say it, her voicing was better in ME1 where she at least had an excuse - not interacting with other species much.

Honorable mention, i cant help but hear male shepard as Zapp Brannigan. This has ruined all my attempts at male sheps.

Liara, Miranda and Allers. All were pretty lackluster.

At the end of the day, Epilogue kid wins in my book... by far.

"Did that really happen?"

"When can I go to the stars?"

"What will be there?"

"Tell me another story about the Shepard"

Every single line was bland and boring in their delivery (and not by design). I'd say that wins easily.

I like the voice actress, but listening to Liara's voice could be a treatment for insomnia.

Fixed.

It really depended which Shepard you picked.

* The */War Hero background? Meer. But he still needed to relax and not be so wooden when he was not on duty.

* The Colonist or Earthborn w/ either the Sole Survivor or Ruthless background? Hale. I agree Hale was a little too on the edge for the Spacer/War Hero type. But mixes of these four will yield a profile that is edgy. Then I looked at my character profiles and most were a mix of these four. I had one Colonist/War Hero (self-insert) - paragade.

My first choice is Colonist/Ruthless and you talk about PTSD. It ain't dreams about a kid. It's dreams about other stuff. We'll throw a little Max Payne in for the heavy drinking and smoking, pain killers. Yeah, and she is in command. Image IPB Hale is perfect.

Default Shepard is supposed to be Earthborn (defined as no parents, ran with gangs, joined the military -- was probably arrested and given a choice by the judge to join the military or go to prison), and Sole Survivor -- this was Drew Karpyshyn's choice. So you're looking at an edgy type of personality. This is a more renegade character and renegade choices which are the default end game choices for each game if you were to start the next game without having played the previous. And this is the disconnect because the overwhelming percentage of players play paragon. Bioware has the numbers that prove that.

I experience more connect with Bioware in this case. Not that I don't want to play a heroic character, but I don't like how it often plays out in Mass Effect. It's more like heroic + being sensitive to everyone in dialogue. It's like Paragon Shep is some super version of Kelly Chambers. Caring too much about people, not stepping on toes, patting you on the back when you're down. It's not always explicit, but just the general approach.

Sheploo is supposed to sound like that 'cuz they didn't want someone stressing over the thousands of likes that sheploo had to say, plus Meer did the Vorcha which really strained his voice. BioWare wanted people with natural voices that fit the characters since they have so many lines to say. At the end of the day, we were all fascinated by a lot of the characters that BioWare created, so there really is no 'better/best' voice actor/actress.

The main crew sounded great in my opinion (given their character types and story background):

Shepard (Hale and Meer)
Garrus
Ashley
Liara
Kaiden
Grunt
Tali

I wouldn't put any of them in the "Bland" or "Boring" category... because all of those voices are iconic to one degree or another.

Bland would be a voice you couldn't pick out of a crowd and identify... and boring would yield a character that's also not very interesting (but every character in your main crew is interesting to some extent).

Liara, though I think that's just part of her character.

I think that MaleShep's voice is too monotone. I hardly noticed this until my first FemShep trilogy playthrough. MaleShep's voice doesn't vary much in tone. Mostly volume. FemShep's voice has much more variance. Especially in the romance scenes. Meer could have done better. Hale did great.

Other than them? Hmm... Kaidan. His whole character is kinda boring. His voice just emphasizes it.

Miranda too. It's part of the reason why I can't see her as a person.

I'd say ME1 and ME2 Wrex, but that's just the way he is.

Ali Hillis was fine in Gears Judgement. It is Liara's character. Well, she's a nerd.

Liara has a monotone voice. But Garrus's voice in ME2 and ME3 is so flat and boring.I love Garrus dearly but its just so horrible. If I didn't like Carth, then Kaidan would be pretty bad too.

Wait, Garrus in ME2 and 3, flat and boring compared to him in ME1? What madness am I reading?

Something in Garrus in ME1 sounded more alive and excited. Still bland of course, but there was something more to it. Almost like there was emotion.

I'm of the opinion that he did not. His voice acting is part of the reason why my canon Shepard is female.

Hale's Voice acting isnt terrible, but i find her to sound like she's half asleep most of the time. Also, it sounds like shes in a porno during romance scenes. Her speeches are nowhere near the awesomeness of Meer's speeches either

I totally agree. FemShep and Liara are the two who seemed to "phone it in." Heck FemShep sounded like she was in a porno during all her renegade dialouge.

I'm curious as to how the comparison to porno dialogue connects here. As one who picks a lot of renegade dialogue, I got no such impression. I mainly take issue with the use of the word "porno", because it doesn't add any valuable description of what tends to be criticism of a female voice actor's performance.

She tries to sound "sexy" during her renegade dialogue, imo and I don't want "sexy badass" I just want "badass". I can't help but picture one of those pornos where the woman is a "super hero" and always expecting to be bent over a railing at any moment. It doesn't help that FemShep sounds even more "I'm in a porno flick" whenever she flirts or just having a regular conversation with Jacob.
