I do not know if this is old news, but it is certainly new to me:

During my most-recent three Platinum missions, I was grabbed by a Banshee on four occasions (twice because of my own stupidity, and twice because she teleported through a wall). All four times, my squadmates were engaged by other enemies, and all four times I saved myself by launching a Cobra Missile. This seems to work only if you already have the Cobra Missile Launcher equipped, and if you can squeeze the trigger before she rams her hand through your torso. In other instances, when my gun was equipped, and the Banshee grabbed me, I was not able to switch to my Cobra Missile Launcher.

Launching a missile while in the Banshee's grasp is certainly better than surrendering and accepting death just because I am caught in the Banshee's "Game Over" animation. You have been denied, Miss Indoctrinated Ardat Yakshi!

I've managed to pull this off a couple times.
quite gratifying, but the last time for me there were two banshees and I had just "saved" myself with my last missile.

sigh...

Wow, that is frustrating, to save yourself from one Banshee only to be defeated by another!

I wonder if it is possible to launch a missile after being caught by a Praetorian or an Atlas. It probably cannot be done with a Phantom or a Brute, because their instakill attacks happen much more quickly than the Banshee's instakill attack.

Thank you for informing me that this is old news, Keonig. I have been playing this game for eleven months, and I cannot believe that I just learned this "life-saving" technique between last night and this morning!

I dunno about the praetorian or atlas saving possibilities.

usually i'm raging so hard after getting grabbed by them I don't even try to nuke.

It works with all sync kills, it's lag related; for praetorians you need a ceiling/wall nearby though since the angle of the camera will have you shoot the missiles upwards.

I know how you feel! If I am in a PUG, and if I am not using my microphone, then I will scream and yell at my television about how unfair this game is! Of course, all is forgiven when I receive the 140,000+ credits for a Full Extraction.

Thank you this information, Reizo. I will remember it for future games.

Spamming the Right Trigger will occasionally save you from a synch-kill. You don't have to have a Cobra equipped, although it helps.

Thank you, Jeremiah. I will remember to do this during the next time that I am grabbed when I do not have my missiles at the ready.

You can occasionally melee yourself free as well (at least as a Krogan) but as with Cobra it's very sporadic. 99% it doesn't work but there's always that 1%.

I have found this work on some other characters as well that have a quick light melee...It has worked several times for me on AIU and Drell characters

Huh? You can fight your way out of a sync kill?

I know sync kills can be interrupted, its happened a few times to me before.

I saved myself twice in one match a couple of days ago using Ops Packs. I felt pretty epic.

It's a glitchy interaction.

If you do it often enough, you'll notice that sometimes your gun is going off when you spam the Right Trigger (or Mouse.) You can hear the firing noise and see the gunfire. As someone else mentioned, it doesn't work, most of the time, but occasionally that bug will kick in, and sometimes the gunfire (or light melee) will stagger the  unit synch-killing you.

It's not "fighting yourself free" so much as "exploiting a bug."

also it's not a guaranteed thing, even if your cobra missiles are out.

That is a slim chance, but a one-percent chance is definitely better than no chance at all!

Yeah, I just noticed this too. So it's old news, eh? ... Figures. I mean, If stumbled upon it pretty simply, as well as the OP did, why not others? I mean, way more complex things have been discovered, no?

Excellent point! I have always wondered how anyone could just "discover" the Firebase Hydra sniper-hideout or the specific activation-maneuvers of the missile-glitch. Unless an ME3 developer leaked this information to the public...

It's more fun when you are in the middle of the sync kill animation and a marauder kills you before it finishes. Then you can revive.
