I hope Mass Effect 4 isn't like Gears of War Judgement.

Can the Mass Effect franchise work without Shepard as the protagonist? The new protagonist in Mass Effect 4 will most likely be compared with Shepard's heroics and accomplishments. Will the same protagonist be able to compare with Shepard?
With Dragon Age: Origins we had the Warden whom did so much in Fereladan, stopping the blight among things and getting to the epicenter in Awakening. Dragon Age 2 showed the Champion, a bit smaller in terms of accomplishments, but still impacting nonethless.
I wonder what changes the new protagonist will bring to the Mass Effect franchise. And if the game does take place before ME1, there is most likely going to be skeptism. Like Bioware pulling a Halo Reach or Gears of War Judgement. Halo Reach was still able to pull off the epicness, Gears of Judgement, not so much.
I wonder where the Mass Effect franchise will go, then again Star Wars is going on with Episodes 7, 8, and 9.
But who knows how awesome it will be compared to the next. Halo 4 went off to discovering the ancients that are the Prometheans and learning of humanities past. Could a protagonist go on to learning the truth about the Reapers?
Will we go back and play through the first contact wars to get a better understanding of Mass Effect and encountering it on Mars? Not sure if fans would enjoy shooting Turians as we shot Elites in Halo.
Will we see more females of each race? Female Salarians? Female Drell? Female Batarians? Female Yahg?
We saw briefly female Turians and female Krogan. What other races haven't we seen alot in Mass Effect. Is there more to it than Hanar and Volus? I mean Shepard went to many planets and it was only late that he met with Bartarians and Vorcha.
Collector's can't be considered a new race since they are simply processed Protheans to begin with.

Imagine a story based on the books about Anderson or the Illusive Man (prequel), imagine a story about Garrus between ME2 and ME3, imagine a story about Nihlus
Personally I'd love ME4 to be about the First Contact War!
Anyhow, my point is that we already have had plenty of heroes and some heroines, so I wouldn't worry about a new, cool, protagonist.

I think a character driven story about a small crew, not even military, and almost all human would be a good call.
We can then see the galaxy through the viewpoint of those who have to live with the kind of decisions people like Shepard make.

Great idea! That's what I call 'space exploration!'

If you want proper survival horror, go play Penumbra:black plague or Amnesia.

Dead space 1/2 was never really a proper survival horror game in the first place, its just a third person action game with a spooky atmosphere since you are able to brutally slaugther everything the game might throw at you bar the regenerating necromorphs.

Mass Effect shouldn't be a pure TPS in the first place.Seboist wrote...
Judgment is a better TPS than all three Mass Effect games, so ME4 should be LIKE IT.

Plus it was a story that didn't need to be told. It didn't really tell us anything we didn't already know.
I kind of fear that Mass Effect 4 and future games are going to end up like that rather than being 'bad' games. That the series will tick along on mediocrity and stories that are just 'meh!'
