Wouldn't pay that much.
I assume it would have all the dlc.
It would be at least a year after the release date before it comes out.
I don't think the new skyrim release with the dlc costs that much.

Not planning to buy Inquisition on release. I'll buy used on principle if EA bump their prices up.

Suppose $120. If you're really good at gaming and fly through the game, perhaps you can fly through it in 40 hours. That's $3/hour and where can you be entertained for that rate? I'd just as soon buy new and have the dlc work.

Microsoft and Sony both said they intend to charge US $60 for their console titles.

Look it up yourself. I saw it on a video uploaded by IGN, though they failed to mention it's only happening in the U.K., according to a major retailer there..So, I should probably change that.

Oh, were bringing Economics in now, well then I did accomadate for the exchange rate, several times. And Income,
You do realize the NZ GDP is about 58% of that in America right, so youre arguement on Income is actually not on your side.

Not my argument - I don't count either.

Alright, fine.

Yeah pretty much.

Heck adding in the insane cost of DLC, waiting a year or so makes better financial sense anyway.

This doesn't surprise me due to the insane development costs of your average AAA videogame these days. But it is another sign that the next crash is just around the corner.

as a French I already pay my games 90$ when they come out (yeah publishers never got the news that the € is stronger than the US$ apparently...)

you're overestimating the new Bioware, I finished ME3 100% on a single sitting of 22 hours and 30min (yes I was tired after that)

considering I payed 330 Francs (50€) for Baldur's Gate 2 and that it took me 120 hours to beat it had a 0,4€/hour rate so comparing it to your 3$/hour (considering that at the time €=$) that's a 750% increase in price from 2000 to 2013.

If I take ME3 which had for me a rating of 4$/hour (even if I bought the collector's edition which was 120US$ here but I'm going to be nice and use the normal game's price ;))  that's a 1000% increase in price in 11 years.

I'll let you think about that

Here is a short article on how many hours should citizen of a given country work to be able to afford a newly released game.

I live in Poland. Cheers.

Thats a big difference when its happening in one country, for there could be issues outside the gaming industry that are causing the price hike, its like the folks in Australia that get hurt by the import fees that increases their prices to unreasonable levels.

What does this have to do with EA? It's not like they decide the market price for games. There are other companies, you know.

Besides, without EA backing Bioware, all games in recent years would have been flops, without a respectable marketing budget, smaller development teams and development times that would likely span 5+ years per game.

Aye, I suspect that quite a lot of content will be gated behind a paywall, even for those who decide to buy at launch.

I am skeptical that it will cost $80 for the regular version.

I don't know the Australian legal system, but if its like around here they might take legal action or just stop selling physical copies of their games because they feel that the Steam prices are undercutting their prices because its an unfair advantage because they don't have to pay the duty fees they are forced to with the boxed versions.  Heck, they might even still have to pay the import fees to the Australian government because of their laws.  Of course I could be completely wrong.

Would kill preorders in the USif that high.
Have doubts.
Would't buy it if it was $80 on release date.

All I really care about in the Collector's Edition is day 1 story DLC anyway so if buying the regular version of the game + day one story DLC separately is cheaper, I'll just do that.

I'd pay $80-100 U.S. dollars for a regular game. A well made, meatier game. Absolutely.

In 1993 I bought Myst for my IBM PS/2 486SX for about 65 bucks. While my wallet doesn't mind that just released PC game prices have actually gone down a bit in the last 20 years, it's still pretty amazing to me that people complain about the idea of raising video game prices at all, ever.

If you don't want to pay a premium for a collector's edition, don't. If you want to wait for games to reach the bargain bin before buying, go ahead. Just don't be surprised when your favorite games don't get sequels or your favorite developers go out of business because they weren't turning a profit.

With the massive devaluation of the US dollar over the past 10 years or so, it's about time game prices went up.
