Not very surprising. Development costs are going up and up and sixty dollars per game just isn't going to cut it anymore.

People will huff-'n-puff and stomp around about it regardless, but this is accurate.

I remember hearing during E3 that some developers wasn't gonna raise the prices and others are still undecided

I like how EA is giving me a great incentive to avoid buying from the few franchises I might of wanted to buy games from.

This will probably fall through.
AAA-publishers want to up the price tag to get as much money as they can
before the console market collapses on itself.

I can only hope this will not affect pricing for the PC versions.

As much as I hope it does for the sake of better PC games. The console market is way stronger than you understand.

That is incorrect.

Nice to see expressing an opinion is now considered "huff-'n-puff" and "stomping around"  Guess we should just smile and take it, eh?

Happens with regular cost of living all the time, as well as with just about all other luxury items. There's a difference between voicing an opinion and being unreasonable, which usually hinges on people not understanding that production costs increase.

People wait until said luxury items go down in price if they can't swing it on release day. I do it all the time.

And this is why I'm far more likely to spend $20 at GoG on tried and true if less cinematic games than spend 20 extra dollars on a company who has squandered my trust in them

A production cost leap of a third in one go?  That's normal?

I (reluctantly) swallowed the increase from 50-60 bucks.  But a frog will hop off a stove if the temperature rises too fast.

Like I said, so long as it stops nickle-diming dlc, I'll buy the first copy and smile while I hand over the money.

It's reasonable, yeah. Things have changed over the past seven or so years, and it's a shift that's needed to happen over that time. In hindsight, they probably should've ratcheted up to $70 in 2010 or 2011 to fight this same issue, instead of sticking with the status quo.

Well, the price is fitting. There's only about 2 or 3 stellar AAA games that come out every year, and I'd only be willing to drop nearly $100 (the price of a console) three times a year to buy something that might be utter and complete crap.

If the price drops to $20 on Amazon as quickly as it did for ME3, this won't be a problem for me. It won't be a problem at all.

Sadly, there's a reason why it dropped as quickly as it did.  And it's not one to encourage buying the game.

People don't realize how frequently this happens with most other games.

Hell, over the past three years I've waited for the inevitable Black Friday or Christmas price-drop for the latest Assassin's Creed game. Like clockwork.

If we were all like Dreamgazer  then the next gen would require online to play as the console development costs were going up and the publishers and console manufacturers needed to cut out the owned game market as it was not making them money to help cover costs for the games.
It's the same logic as it is about making more money.

But anyway, I have principles regarding gaming.
And considering how many games I buy, $80 is $60 too much for me.
A one off maybe.

Why would a price increace stop Micro transactions & gimicy DLC? I know you Aussie's have it tough when it comes to buying games but I mean you can just still pay $100 dollars (€60 here in Ireland) without buying **** DLC or Pay $120 and still not buy the **** DLC because it's not going away no matter the price of the Base game. Like this is EA we are talking about here:P

Mass Effect 2's drops in price weren't dissimilar to that of ME3's, really.  Quicker perhaps, sure, but 2 went down $20 on Amazon in a little over a month's time, too.

I'm not talking about just EA when I speak about the nickle-diming DLC. Other companies do it too and it's becoming quite an infuriating trend.

Why I think increasing the price of the base game would help is due to the fact that because these games are so overdue for a price increase. I atest that to the dlc-whoring as a means of compensating.

If they're going to get $80 from you I don't see why they won't milk you for more to help the profits they think they will get.

Or, y'know, you just pay the extra bank on release day to cover the increase in costs that has been building over the past decade.

No reason to make false, extravagant assumptions.  If I were to do the same, then I'd say that the consumers demanding that the price not change are responsible for the increase in nickle-and-diming through DLC. The money has to come from somewhere.
