I think it could happen, even if shepard seems to have a I-can-handle-it-myself attitude. And your shepard's attitude would be based on your paragon/renegade score from ME3. And you can switch between squadmates.

No, primarily because people have custom Shepards, and you cannot do the face import of your Shepard made in Unreal Engine 3 into Frostbite 2.

It's impossible to have 'Shepard' in the game unless some artist went out of their way to remake the default Shep. Which they wouldn't do since not 100% of players use it.

Shepard will not be in ME4 for THIS REASON alone; there is no chance of him/her appearing because of it.

I wouldn't mind rolling with an Adept Spacer War Hero pumpkin-eyed Sheploo.

Though the problem is that not everyone's Shepard was an Adept Spacer War Hero with pumpkin-colored eyes whose face was scanned from that of a Dutch fashion model.

Wouldn't work as Shepard is heavily defined by the player, having him/her become a Squad mate would heavily restrict the player scope of the character.  It would all diminish Shepard since Such an important figure in galactic history suddenly playing second fiddle to someone else doesn't quite work.

No squadmate, but maybe a cameo :Shepard could be the new human councellor, a reaper vigilente, or a name on a tombstone.

well, we were never really playing first fiddle either (as ME3 ruined all the choices....Rachni and Cerberus for example...and took all controll from the player (linear gameplay!))

but yes, otherwise i agree with you - my Sheppard would not take to being commanded about by some wet behind the ears greenhorn (!)

greetings LAX
ps: having him/her along for one specific mission (gender and looks would need to be determined by save-import though) - where you are doing something and he/she wants to help (because she has business there, too)...or you ask for help (because you couldn't get it done otherwise)?...yeah, but not as a normal squad-mate, it does not work IMHO

I figured if you could make some armor then import their face (looking at you, Kaidan, and your fruity pink armor) and make one for male and female. Then (in the case of the clone) give him/her some abilities from each class and level them up.

And in the case of taking orders, who says Shepard is going to be below the next protagonist? Shepard gets big promotion, put in charge of the Normandy, and the protagonist is the XO or something.

No! Not that I hate shep its because I don't want BW to screw with shep anymore then what they did for instance para shep tells Tim we can't hold that much power we aren't ready and shouldn't even try (paraphrasing) then 5 seconds later when you pick control he/she's all like I had to become greater in order to defeat the reapers and by defeat he/she means brainwash them for about 10 minutes.

Having shep as a squadmate will lead to the inevitable why did you do X with the end choice Shep or why did you do X when at this battle that means BW will be having our shep explain to us the why and our whys are vastly different then anything they could write in. If these questions can't be asked then players will demand to know why it couldn't be asked.

So no I don't want shep returning even as a cameo or quest giver, I don't want any of his/her friends, squadmates, bosses, or important npcs reshowing in ME4 being quest givers or even walking encyclopedias set the sequel 4,000 - 50,000 years into the future this way the new world can speculate or tell the truth about events in ME- ME3 and we don't have BW retconning or making things counter to the players own views as to information presented by those games by those characters.

No because shep is either dead, reaper goddess, star dust, or coma.

Shep's child will be an Asari Commando/Librarian that you are forced to rescue/help. She'll join your squad and you might be able to romance her. Lip service to Liara will be via e-mail.

Haven't you've heard allready: The next Mass Effect will be a dystopian story set many centuries after Mass Effect 3 were a group of technocrats not allinged to any species or organization have taken over large parts of the galaxy using reverse-engineered Indoctrination tech.

Unless Bioware lies again, he is right. They stated his story is over. At the least there will be lore and dialogue referring to the events of ME 1 - 3. (if the next game is set after the events of ME3)  I don't even expect cameo possibilities by Shepard.

Time to move on past Shepard to John Herder, John Chaperone, John Usher or  even John Marshal. (looked up synonyms to Sheperd)

I'd like him/her to come back as a hooded mad prophet (maybe just replace the batarian mad prophet in Omega).

Maybe he'll preach against the cult and legend of The Shepard. "Shepard is a blight. You're not really saved. The Reapers are still here." Then we get a new ending/Reaper war, done right.

OK, maybe not all of that. The mad prophet thing would be cool though.

Nope, nope. The only thing worse than rewatching the endings of ME3 in perpetuity would be to see Shepard in any future ME game. PERIOD. That trilogy is over, it should be dead and buried except for tangentially related issues or codex stuff. The previous 3 games, while great, were inartfully (jury still out whether that's a word) executed. As such, bury these characters and wipe the slate clean. The ONLY thing I would accept in a future ME game is a synopsis of how all these characters died after the war. Or to be able to bounty hunt them in general, which would be AMAZING. That would be an interesting start of a future game, yeah?
